I’ve just spoken to Sharon. She asked me to let you all know what’s been going on this week. This has been a very difficult few days for her. Four days ago – Wednesday 9/10… Her son, Todd, had a very severe auto accident as he was driving to work.

Todd has just now been taken out of intensive care and has a private hospital room, so she felt she could begin to share some of the details with you, her Passionate friends. On the freeway, en route to Vancouver, Todd skidded on a wet oil slick and lost control of his little sports car. He spun around and hit a pole on the passenger side of the vehicle, buckling it into an “L” shape that came within inches of killing him. Sharon herself was supposed to have been in the passenger seat, but had thankfully changed her mind at the last moment.

Todd has multiple external abrasions that have been stitched up, but his primary injury is to his brain. The front of his brain has actually been bruised on both the left and right sides, affecting his cognitive ability, decision-making, and his personality. This is far more severe than a simple concussion. No two head trauma incidences are alike, so there’s no way of predicting the outcome. His injury may be temporary or permanent… It may result in mild or severe cognitive limitations. It’s too soon to tell. All that Sharon can say at this point is that it’ll involve several months of rehabilitation.

Todd is sleeping more than not at this point – Not what the doctors want to see. They want him ambulatory ASAP to stimulate healing. If you can imagine this, Sharon threw a bit of a calculated tantrum in the hospital to ensure Todd’s being treated by the best doctor in the city (who was reportedly unavailable). She won, of course…

Although he’s aware of his family around him, Todd does have difficulty thinking. He can’t make decisions or think clearly. He’s had trouble remembering details and hasn’t been able to assimilate his place in his own family. He definitely wants “Mom” to be there beside him.

Sharon is on autopilot, my friends. We all know that Todd is her world. She’s doing what moms do in cases like this. She’s taken up a bedside vigil and certainly hasn’t been able to do much else. She’s not the “prayerful” type, but surely will accept any and all prayers and well wishes that we can muster up. I’d say that’s a pretty Passionate lot, wouldn’t you?

Here’s number one… God be with him, Sharon… He'll get well...

Loveya
Nancy

My prayers are added here. I know we all want to let her know how we're feeling but I've avoided emailing her so she won't have to worry about answering until she's ready. I'm just here if she needs me....

I know he's going to be fine. God answers prayers and there a so many being sent to Him about Todd. I'm also praying for his wife, Brenda, and their girls. It's hard for the whole family at this time.

Thanks Nan...

Sharon, I so wish I could reach you to tell you how much your words to me meant and the prayers and the thoughts on dealing with tragedies...and my sister.
I will be thinking of your son and you and I know the strength you have will see you through all of this.

There are days when I am really down, but when I am, I will do double the praying for your family and mine...

Dear Sharon: I didn't know what had happened until today, but I am praying from now on for Todd and for the rest of your family, yourself included. I'm so sorry to learn of what you are going through. You will be in my thoughts every day!

My oldest son had to have surgery on Friday and my husband dislocated his knee on Tuesday, so I have not been able to spend much time here.  will try to check in every day now.

This is my son, his wife, and two girls.

I can't thank all of you enough for these kinds words, and tonight I think I needed to see these.  Today was the 4th day after his accident, and according to the doctor the very worst in this type of accident, as it was the "peak swelling" day.  Todd was in severe pain, and extremely withdrawn today.  He is having cognitive troubles and drifts in and out of making sense, and can't seem to stay awake at all, and this is not good.  Tomorrow they will try to keep him awake longer somehow, and get him up to the chair or on a walker. Bruising a brain is serious business, and it is going to take some time to get him back to us the way he was I am sure, but I have my entire lifetime to wait, and so does his family and we are positive he will make it back.  I am hopeful with this new doctor he will progress much faster.  He does have CT scans every day and sometimes twice a day to make sure the swelling is at least the same, or going down, as well as MRI's.  I just wish someone would say something really positive, well maybe tomorrow.  Next week some of his stitches will come out so less bandages, etc. will be nice.

Again, thank you so kindly, and I will see that my daughter-in-love sees these lovely prayers and thoughts too, as she too has a large circle of friends praying for Todd.

Kacy - Todd is going to be 100% you just watch!

Maureen - You hang in there you hear, and love that sister all you can, even if she says to go away!

~* THANK YOU AND BLESS YOU ALL *~

Everyone has been simply so supportive and I truly thank you all for your cards, and notes in email.  Now our long road will begin as Todd is coming out of the hospital today to my house for his recovery.  I live close to a hospital in case I run into trouble so this works for our entire family.  My daughter-in-love has her hands full with two little girls coming and going, and will visit whenever she wishes, but Todd actually needs total rest right now, and try that with two little girls who love their Daddy, a possessive dog, and tons of stairs (which he can't climb right now.) I intend to spoil him rotten while I have him here that's for sure!

Todd's cognitive skills are not where they should be but I am being trained on how to work with him today by the psychotherapist.   The lady from Red Cross comes shortly to give me some pointers, and various aids for his care he will need to function over the next few weeks.  Todd's sense of humor is intact and although he has trouble walking and keeping his focus right now, this too will change with time, some help, lots of love, and rest.

So...he is coming home and he is alive, that is all we care about.  We truly thank GOD for his hand in all of this.

Oh Sharon, I am so sad to hear of this. My 19 year old son was in an accident in May. Flipping his car twice. Thank God he was OK.

It is so promising to see you write, “He is coming home, and he is alive.” Wow, what a tremendously wonderful thing that is to say, for a parent of child.

I know, that this is just the beginning of improved health and ever positive progress for your dear son Todd.

Your son, and your entire family will constantly be in my thoughts and prayers. And hopefully with the loving support of your family and friends, you will be able to help your son, like I’m sure you always have, during this most difficult time.

I am so hopeful, that everything will be OK.

God Bless You, And Your Entire Family Sharon.

Hi everyone, this is Todd, living as large as one possibly could with Sharon at your hands and feet. LOL

Thanks so much for the kind words and I hope they speed me along to a fast recovery.   I had to meet with specialists who are trying to match my brains with the kind of questions it would take to have a job like that.  Looks like I will be here until next week, then trying to figure out what kind of car to get next, then back to chaos!

thanks again all !!!!

Todd

imagine a Candy Apple Red version of a 300 TwinTurbo Nissan sports car wrapped around a cement and steel pole coming straight across from the passenger side: Aside from my brain being a little shocked, bruised and confused, I only have a few scratches to show for it.

My staff took a poll to see what car I should get to replace the 300 TwinTurbo.

Mercedes/BMW   -  70%
SUV/Midside    -  14%
something safe -  10%
something fast!-  10%
something else-   6%

Be prepared to get six healthy meals a day from MOM, and she will no doubt ask you to eat 3 times the daily recommended requirement of fresh fruits and veggies. LOL

Hi everyone!  I have a really bad memory due to surgery a number of years ago, so I keep all my passwords in a book by my computer, I see Todd found it and posted to this site and this thread last night.  I had showed him this earlier in the evening, and went for a nap (as I thought he had), so I guess he got on this computer while I snoozed.

Don't let him fool you - he has one good day, and one really bad one.  Yesterday was a good day, and today is not as good, but time will change it all.  He won't be driving a vehicle for a long, long time they say due to his cognitive skill level at this particular time, but if he is Kacy, a tank is what I would want

I so appreciate all your kind thoughts for him and our entire family.  I am changing my password today, to keep him off this site, but am glad he did get to thank you all.

This is so hard to deal with, as I knew my son in a totally different light than I see him in now, but time will change things for the better I hope.

I am asking to have this thread closed, but trust me I do appreciate all the kindness you all have shown, and have printed out your kind responses for him to see later on.

Again, thank you all so much for being you!
