damn ringo, did i make it that obvious? sighs yes it's true i'm dying to see fried green tomatoes: the tomatoes strike back...

ok yeah, star wars too. hopefully it doesn't stank like the last two. looks good and there's the hope that young vader lops off jar jar bink's head

the new batman looks great too, back to the dark edge where it should be

lauren the interpreter definitely looks interesting, hopefully there are a few great dramas coming out to balance out the blockbuster movies.

Aside from te obvious (and i really liked the past two installments, though Jar-Jar... ick... I hear this one may even be rated PG13!)

Mr. and Mrs. Smith looks way too cool.

Bella i look forward to nicole kidman in anything, but yeah tha tmovie looks interesting

i really don't get the whole orlando bllom thing but yeah kingdom looks interesting lovebug

aye meg aye, can't wait for that one

christopher, yup i think it is PG 13. they weren't too bad, episode ii was a vast improvement over the first. but between jar jar, little annie's acting, and the cheesy romance between the wooden(but oh so beautiful) natalie portman and timberlake vader to be, i just couldn't get into them as much. a little editing would have gone a long way but this one looks more like empire strikes back which is the best of the series in my opinion

batman begins, hitchhiker's guide, star wars, mr and mrs pitt..er smith, and war of the worlds all look interesting to me

it's actually at the end of the upcoming blockbuster season, but i'm really looking forward to Joss Whedon's "Serenity." I love his stuff and the trailer looks way cool, with his signature humor.

May I take a moment to reflect on the downfall of Blockbuster (the video store)?

thanks.

What were they thinking?

"Oh crap, we have some serious competition.  What are we going to do?"

"How about we do away with late charges and if the movie doesn't get returned in a certain amount of time we charge their credit card the full amount to replace the movie/game plus a restocking fee?" (I won't even mention the litigation against BB for not being totally upfront with the fees)

"Great idea, lets do it!"

Flaws:  You can't find a decent movie to rent anymore because everybody is keeping movies as long as possible passing them to family and friends.

This means BB lost tons of money in late charges AND tons of money in loss of renters.  We can't find anything to rent!!

Better plan to stay competitive:  leave the late charges (we need discipline), and cut the rental fees by a buck or two.  It's a win-win.  Dang it.

*end of rant*

thank you Raph.

Christopher you're a Whedon fan too?! I can't wait for serenity, i still haven't recovered from firefly's cancellation, not to mention angel..oh how i miss amy acker.

Joss had been keeping busy, he just lengthened his Marvel deal writing for x-men comics and is preparing the script for a wonder-woman movie. good to see him getting recognition

I am, completely.

I finished the last Angel a month or so ago and was depressed for a week after. Buffy wasn't so bad, because we did have Angel to fall back on. I admit I still havent' seen Firefly yet, but only because I haven't managed to find time to get a copy (though it's on my list of things to do).

The Marvel bit? Too cool. Wonder Woman is DC though. (I know, I'm just showing off my comic book knowledge)

You'll l#ve Firefly, a great show that was never handled properly. For example, Fox showed the two hour pilot HALF way through the season. Would've made it easier to follow as the first few episodes were a little slow/confusing without the background. The bounty hunter episode, my favourite.

He's done alot of comic work, his next project is a mini-series that bridges Firefly series to the movie, finishing up his run on Astonishing X-men for Marvel and then moving on to, yup, DC's WonderWoman

ahem..yes..i've finally come to terms with my inner geek lol

I saw "Kingdom of Heaven" today.

I was a bit disappointed. A lot went on, but it seemed like there was so much that he didn't focus enough on anything. I might be wrong though, but thats JMO. Orlando Bloom did a great job, I think this is the best I've seen him. Historically, it's pretty unrealistic and you can tell that it's doctored up to appeal to a post 9-11 world.. which is fine, but just adds to the inaccuracy.

It's a B.
Orlando Bloom's hottness.. ALWAYS an A+

That's one I'll have to see, but I'll have to wait for the DVD.  I have an issue with exhorbitant ticket prices coupled with several hours of discomfort.  I have a slight passion for the Third Crusade and for the 1100-1300 timeframe.

inaccurate it what way lovebug? did it gloss over christian brutality, that's part of the reason i don't think i'll watch it. there's the fantasy of the noble crusades and their reality

I saw Kingdom of Heaven, too but the theatre was so full we had to sit in the second row and I ended up hardly paying attention since it was so uncomfortable. Those screens are huge! Plus I'd been told by a friend (who hadn't seen it) that it was a different kind of movie, once I found out it was about one of the crusades I was far less interested...

Anyway, the two things that I noticed the most were (1) the fighting was very hollywood. If you know anything at all about sword fighting or any real hand to hand battle combat, you'll recognise this is very scripted, rehearsed, and unrealistic. It does get better at the end, though.

Also, (2) really there was no good or evil depicted in the movie. And Christian or not, when it comes to a movie people want to get involved either emotionally or visually. As it is, it could only do either of those if you like Orlando Bloom. ...I don't.

I will give it credit, though, for representing two different sides of Christianity. There were the egomaniacal ones trying to serve themselves and there were the humble ones trying serve God. So I don't think it tried to make them all sound great and noble. As a Christian I certainly don't agree with everything the Christian army did in this film (I'm glad Christ is greater than christians are and my identity is in Him, not in them. Wish there were less hypcrites out there). I don't really know as much about the crusades as I should, though, so I'm not sure about some of its historical accuracy.

So that's my two cents worth. I'd rather have stayed at home and caught up reading poetry...

What did everyone think of Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy? ...I liked it, but I thought the president of the galaxy (uhh, whatshisface) was too annoying. He's supposed to be annoying, but just not THAT annoying IMO. Marvin was great!

Always, Alyssa

It's just like they tried too hard not to offend anybody. I liked the depiciton of the Muslims and Saladin, that was quite accurate. Everything else though, man, it was a long shot. It showed Christian brutality, but it focused on those who didn't agree with that (Bloom and his possy   ). THe question is, though, were there really that many people who thought that way? I could be wrong, but I'm leaning towards no.

lovebug i think alot of people would have felt that way out of sheer ignorance. information and cultural awareness wasn't what it is today. i recall reading historical accounts by crusaders mentioning that muslims would let loose their godless cries during battle. Of course we now know the battle call was 'for Allah.' not eactly godless. i don't think they were evil, simply misguided by propaganda and information control.

"that way"=that Muslims and Jews had a right to be in the holy land

The focus of the movie is on those who thought that way. I don't think thay many people did.
