Children, can't you see!
Now at last . . . I'm free
from the awesome responsibility
of being the mama that I needed to be.
I’m so alone at last,
as I have often been in the past.
With my love you have left the nest;
and as you travel on your life’s quest,
it is time for me to take a rest

Yes, it is time for this mama to be at ease!
As I practice my guitar under the willow tree,
my silver-streaked hair blows free in the breeze.
To pluck moonbeams from the crystal night air
weaving a tapestry of splendid fantasies;
to find a new way, an alternate reality.

For fifteen years I cared for you alone,
keeping it all together till you were grown;
in the endless struggle to give
my children a decent and happy home,
how could you know the terrible toll
so dearly paid by this yearning soul?
As you make your way into the world,
can you not see what I must do?
It’s time for my life to begin anew.

Yes, it is time for this mama to be at ease!
As I practice my guitar under the willow trees,
my silver-streaked hair blows free in the breeze.
To pluck moonbeams from the crystal night air
weaving a tapestry of marvelous fantasies;
to find a new way, an alternate reality.

Wordancer; Isn't it lovely to have a new freedom at last? You've written well of this time in our lives, this new adventure. I have six children and my youngest is 13, oldest 31. My caboose has kept me young! Ellie

I think they will learn even more from their mama as they see her stretch her wings and fly! This is a beautiful poem!

well mama..not bad.. hope this new life is all you hoped it will be.

the woods are lovely, dark, and deep, but I have promises to keep, and many miles to go before I sleep...Frost

Very lovely, Wordancer!  I, too, am finding myself, silver-streaked hair and all, although my nest is not quite empty yet.  It is wonderful to take back your own identity after living for other people for so many years.  Keep weaving and singing!< !signature-->

Freedom is a good thing...so much time left to enjoy the little things in life.  I wish you all the happiness in your artistic journeys...

Thanks for all your wonderfully kind comments.

…and I’m beginning to see that one never really find themselves; but only to become acquainted with various facets of oneself as they move on, in life…hum, perhaps there is a poem in this observation I just saw?

…and the dancer of words, wanders on deep in her thoughts…
