Let’s go walking,
says I to you,
and we take off
to cover a mile or two.
We pass by the courthouse,
you always hike your leg,
down the long stretch
to the fire barn,
walking fast across the entrance
in case the alarm sounds -
like it did one evening,
when we jumped out of our skins.
Now we’re by the Vet’s place,
you tuck that tail between your legs,
but the spring
comes back into your step
as you see we’re moving on.
There’s your old friend the collie,
so we stop, you have a sniff,
you cut and dive, bounce and whine,
and then it’s back away from the fence.
On we go down the lonely road
to the lake out by the edge of town.
The bullfrogs bellow, small things scurry,
and it’s here that I let go...
You take off running, the chase is on!
I hear the dry grass swooshing,
as you bound about the park,
after some poor animal...I hope it’s not a skunk!
Then the swooshing stops and there you are
back by my side, you’ve had enough.
We head back home, slower now,
the stars are out, and a cool breeze blows.
Walking back through the town
back to our home...you and I.

Wow!

I didn't think a walk could be this...well...entertaining!   Great job with this!!

I'd go for a walk, but some might mistake me for a purple furless dog with gold horns and wings...nah, I don't think that would be wise...

Thanks, I told Chelsea all about you guys.

Lynne:  Not that I know of, but this is not my maiden name.  All the Tovey's that I know of are in England!

Jana, cute story, grinned from beginning to end. Sounds like your Chelsea knows when to hold 'em and knows when to tuck it. Enjoyed.
