We're told we should count our Blessings,
And be Thankful for everything,
But are All blessings, Blessings--
Or can they be other things?

There is a great neutrality
Of all things, as to their worth,
That's up to us by our using
As to if they're for "better or worse!"

Is intellect and knowledge a blessing?
Without it some blessings are denied,
But it too, can become a great hind'rance
If it puffs up it's possessor with Pride!

"You can't judge a book by it's cover"
The same's true of Blessings, you see,
If unused or abused, they will bring woe
Instead of a true blessing to me.

Morality, by God is directed
But if it, with self-righteousness fills,
The sense of our Goodness, is no blessing at all
But Bigotries cause and ill-will!

A Double Irony exists
A Curse into a Blessing may change,
But also what's meant as a Blessing
Can cause some to Curse the Lord's Name.

Thus a Vice is a Virtue gone bad.
And misspent, it's to folly and shame,
But a Blessing used as God designed--
Is a "Blessing Indeed," Praise His Name!

So in counting your blessings, don't stop
But also count on well using them too,
Then your blessing can really be BLESSINGS
And God Mercies will come shining through!

"Our Creativity points to a Higher Creator--we couldn't have just happened, and for what ability we may possess--to God be the glory." -dlw-

Every blessing is a two sided coin,
Either blessing or curse can it be,
But if GOD guides our lives for his purpose,
No telling how BLESSED we will be!

I liked this thoughtful piece. Dennis :^)

Certainly a lot to think about here, sir. And so inspiring! I like this a lot. I've admired your work for some time and even proposed to you in the Announcement & Links Forum (you must not go there?)...in the post titled "Do you know what year this is?"... it's all in fun though! Thanks for the lovely read!   PdV (aka Sharon)
