10,000 people died before
The setting of the sun.
I'm very happy to report
To all I was not one.

100,000 other souls
Lost friends and family,
Yet I do not know anyone
Who met with tragedy.

5,000 lost possessions as
Their house burned to the ground
Devouring everything they owned;
Yet I am safe and sound.

There were 10,000 accidents,
2,000 operations.
5,000 died in wars between
The Serbs and the Croatians.

So many Jews and Arabs lost
It all in senseless raids.
At least 5,000 people were
Advised that they had aids.

Famine took the lives of many
Children on this earth.
Many women sacrificed their
Lives while giving birth.

10,000 people got divorces,
Other lost their jobs.
Homeless people slept in streets
And wore clothes fit for slobs.

Youngsters suffered child abuse;
There were suicides.
People lived in terror at
The thought of genocide.

People died around the world
From things that have no cures.
You ask me how MY day has been?
TERRIFIC! How was yours?

Balladeer,

Thank you for this. I'm going to copy it, and tape it to my bathroom mirror, to remind me to be thankful for all the blessings I have in my life. You have a wonderful talent for taking the truths in life, and putting them beautifully into light. *Bowing down before the Master* p.s. I'm still waiting for that book!

I am overwhelmed, speechless and crying again. My day was fantastic. I will print this out, one for each of my kids and one for myself to hang up in work. Thank you for this wonderful piece. Now, until you write your next one, I must say this is my favorite.

Mine was a pretty long day, thanks - but it, too, was devoid of personal disaster....

To put everything into perspective is you watching ants through a microscope, and then knowing, thinking perhaps, it is we who are under the microscope after all.

Good message, 'Deer. We all need that boost back to reality to see our true silver linings.

NOT SURE IF I AGREE WITH THE WHOLE PERSPECTIVE THING. SURE I AM HAPPY TO BE WELL BUT THAT ALSO MEANS THAT WHAT OTHERS MAY CONSIDER MINOR PROBLEMS BECOME MUCH MORE SIGNIFICANT AND ANNOYING OR WORRYING OR DISTRESSING. IF YOU HAVE JUST HAD SOMEONE YOU LOVE DIE YOU DON'T GIVE A **** ABOUT YOUR FINANCIAL SITUATION BUT NO ONE I KNOW HAS DIED RECENTLY AND I AM CONSTANTLY HASSLED ABOUT THE FACT THAT I HAVE BLOWN ABOUT THREE THOUSND POUNDS IN THE LAST FEW WEEKS AND HAE NO MONEY LEFT. I KNOW SOME MAY THINK THAT IS A SELFISH OPINION BUT IT ISN'T. I AM NOT SAYING I HAVE NO SYMPATHY FOR OTHERS BUT BECAUSE I AM FORCED TO PLAY THE GAME OF LIFE IN THE WAY OF THE MONEY GRABBING WORLD I HAVE CONCERNS OF MY OWN AND THEY HASSLE ME GREATLY TOO

It is sad that there is so much pain and suffering in this world. Your poem points this out in your usual brillian manner, but I just have to say that millions of people are also blessed with good health, make love to their own true love, enjoyed a good meal, sleep with the window open and work doing something they really like to do. I'm thankful to say I'm one of them.
