I think we should hold an annual meeting somewhere, like a reunion of poets and meet in person...I know other clubs do...like hells angels, and the Roller Coaster lovers...rocket lovers etc...it would be great publicity for Passions too!

hey I'll bring my famous home made baked beans!

We held our first annual "Passions Unmasquerading" in Washington DC last September.... We had about a dozen people in attendance, and we're more than ready for a second...

Doreen was a wonderful hostess for the first session, and can certainly give some invaluable input on the planning issues.  We've talked about having one on Cape Cod - and of course that would be fine with me... We're also open to other suggestions - Let's brainstorm on this thread and make it happen... YEAH!!!

Chicago...hmmm...major airline hub...cheap fares...then we board a bus for a 10 hour ride to Colon, Magic Capital of the World..we descend on the poor townsfolk who become enchanted with our poetic ways and continual hugging...they rename Colon to the Poetry Capital of the World, we get in the Guinness book of World records..with a photo and for all time Colon will be known for our exploits...we will go back each year at the same time (like Swallows to Capistrano) and make poetic together....(we interrupt this fantasy to bring you a word from Sharon's brain) "please excuse PdV, as she had had too much caffeine today!".....

Sven, the population of Colon is actually pretty used to it. Every Autumn, we are swarmed by several thousand magicians for a week, and thousands more of visitors driving in daily to see the magic shows and, perhaps, buy their own illusions. It's a zoo!

I've now lived through two Magic Festivals since moving here, and I still haven't figured out where the influx of entertainers stay for five days. The nearest hotel is about 30 miles away. I keep picturing a corn field somewhere, tucked behind one of our lakes and covered with a few thousand tents...

Hmm..I may be a little late with this response but...
I think this is something like Devine said, but I think if we get a very rough list of people who may be attending we could narrow the location down better. In the middle somewhere for sure.  As for Devine's first list, Biloxi is of course closest to me, but Nashville wouldn't be such a big problem either.  I haven't checked the others.  ahh well..I'll follow this in hopes this can happen again soon. I don't want to miss this one.   Laters everyone.

Nashville might be interesting.... Hey Brian Long runs a hotel near there somewhere... hehe... We could fix his wagon by descending on his place..... That'd get him in the Passions mode....Whatcha think, Temptress??

Yep, Nan.   I think Nashville would be great, and Brian most definetely needs a Passionate Mode.   I haven't seen him for a while, have you? Do we need a search party?   I'm getting excited just thinking about all of this!   I can't wait to see where this thread takes us.

The chances of me making it to this is probably nil if I have to fly. Now soome where in Michigan I could probably do cause I could drive. I guess it all depends on when this shindig would be happening as to where or not I would be able to make it. *sigh* I would love to hang out with everyone for a few days.   Ah well if not this year maybe next.

After thought.....Niagra Falls is only 2 hours from me as well. Definately could make it if it were to be there.

Salina, Kansas, one of the "America" Cities...home of the BiCentennial Center and big-name draws...holds 6000 plus seats... currently home of the Kansas Cagerz National Basketball League...about as MIDAMERICA as you all can get, and Salina even hosts its own airlines...now then, if you want ART you would start thinking ahead to Smoky Hill River Festival 2001 [current one is scheduled for June 8,9,10,11 and probably a little too short on advance notice for you artisitic types] where there are traveling storytellers, lots and lots of arts of all times, great bands of all sorts from ...

well, heck, check it out yourselves at http://www.riverfestival.com/2000/index.html  and see if Salina is a place for future Passions in Poetry Reunions....

As far as I can see, the only thing the Smoky Hill River Festival has ever been missing is a bunch of poetic types...

Hugs to all, Sunshine...

Wouldn't you just all love to come to the City of Brotherly Love.....sure you would! Don't believe all the news reports and surveys that indicate that it is the unfriendliest place on earth.....well, heck, if we had a winning sports team, everybody would be much nicer.....hehehehe...but hey, I could give you all a tour of the Liberty Bell (since Michael visited and was ringing it though, they have since encased it in glass....hehehe), The house of Betsy Ross, our world famous Art Museum, ya know, the one where Rocky ran up the steps in the movie? Also, the place where they signed the Declaration of Independance (the name escapes me at the moment....but I know where it is....hehehe....and of course I could introduce you all to the wonders of Philly food, Philly cheesesteaks, the best in the world, real soft pretzles, Hoagies (called submarine sandwiches in places like New York).....the best you'll ever have! The cost of living is better here than in most large cities, too, so your money will go a little further......have I sold anyone yet? Hey, maybe we could all go to a Philies game and meet the Philly Fanatic.....he's a real scream!! Oh well, I tried!!! LOL

The two are definitely not the same!!!  (Although I can make money disappear real well!!)

Sven, judging by the reports (and photos) of the D.C. trip, there is NO location suitable for a group of poets. Even the San Diego Zoo has standards, you know...

Ok... here's the deal...

"i'm going to graceland... graceland... memphis tennessee... i'm going to graceland... i've got a reason to believe we all will be received in graceland"

whoops... sorry... i love paul so much... *grin*

ummm... who's the Organizer of this shindig? Nan said i'd have some input... and, as usual, she was right... lol.. from doing this before, the best way to do it is to have a couple of Organizers working together (hmmm... this time, i might have to take a break from the assignment, if that's ok with all of you...   ... but....i'd love to design the poster and the t-shirts, picture these t-shirts... ("I Survived with Passion"... or "I Donated My Time to the Passionate Poetpeople Unmasquerade #II and All I Got Was This Lousy T-shirt")

anyway, i think someone in this thread mentioned finding out who was 'seriously' interested in attending first and that's a great idea...but you can't find that out until a place and time are selected... i don't recommend picking a date any earlier than august because this will take a couple of months to plan... i'd narrow it down to 2-3 places, then take a vote...

the place and date need to be picked first... people can't tell you if they are 'seriously' interested unless someone tells them when and where and for how long

i guess that's pretty obvious... LOL... but what i'm trying to say is

THIS WON'T HAPPEN unless someone is nominated and elected as Organizer and starts making some decisions... everybody wants to meet in a convenient place for them which is why when i organized it, i had the poetpeople come to me! LOL... and yeah.. we had a blast!!

So.... wherever it this get-together happens, i'd really LOVE to come!! But vacations need to be planned so... who's in charge???

chicago would be nice, btw... hehe... i think i might like that... never been there

oh, and ron, you crack me up... LOL... "NO location is suitable to poets"... hehe... and nan was right... that's why we wore disguises....

this time, i want to meet the wizard... that's for sure!!! even a curtain call would be kewl!!

i don't know if i'd call it a 'reunion', tho... since most of us haven't met... we called it 'unmasquerade' the first time around but call it what you will, just tell me where to go..... (maybe i shouldn't have said that.. *wink*)

So, Mr. or Ms. Organizer... give me my assignment.. designing the posters, online invitations, t-shirts... woohooo!!! I can't wait!! But i need text first with date, time, costs & location...

oh... and i love the cape, so that would work for me, too... but i'm not picky... timing is more important than location IMHO... planes go everywhere

take care, you poetpeople... i'll check back on this thread soon!

Well how about some place in Canada.... you get twice the bang for your US buck. I also like the cape fresh lobsters...yeah.
British Columbia.... Toronto...
Montreal... or Nova Scotia on the Atlantic side Halifax is interesting city... right on the very edge.. Cape Briton its a celtic mecca and the scenery is amazing... lots of nice bed and breakfests Inn's. Some of the seaside towns are like stepping back in time 200 years, a real pirate adventure place.
So those are my suggestions...

I think Nashville would be great, The song writing capitol of the states, so our poetry would be accepted, you have friendly people, down home cooking, and lots of space , major airport too...
We southern folk love poetry...lol..hospitality is our middle name!

I agree with the Masquerade idea, and fall would be a great time, when the leaves are changing and everyone has had their vacation, we could do card invitations over the net through e-mail.Then everyone could print them out...

Contact some bands for music, and the local media for publicity.Maybe have some famous poets like Maya Angelo, Recite some poetry or give words of encouragement, The decorations could be shakespearean era,We could have some games to play, contests,..etc.

You know Williamsburg Va, the olde Country , back in Colonial days is a great place, they have huge conference halls there. There is coblestone streets, with horse and buggy , London Style streets of old. Beautiful in the fall...

Well i maybe throwing a big spanner in the works on this....but what about the place where most of the classic poets and poems came from in the first place and where most of the american people are descended, England..
Stratford upon Avon where the Bard himself came from.....

There are poets from England on pip too you know, we all should come together in the place where the first dictionary was created by Johnson and since we HAVE to use words in poetry.... it should be England the home of english language...

First time I came to America
I got married tra la la
The second time I went over there
Poets hugged me and took care
of this little Dutchie from far away
and they almost made me stay

A third time I welcome with passionate love
I'll put on my wings and fly above
the land of poets great and small
Lets gather around and have a ball

of course, it would have to be Greenwich Village . . .

Canada is close, The Falls like 10 minutes from me, CT, MD, PA, OH, DC, and a small field by my house where we can all pitch tents with the carnies and pretend we are gypsies . . .

I would really want to go but at the same time, I'd be worried about not quite fitting in... you know?  I'm a lot younger than some of you guys, and most of the open folks I don't know, and don't know me.  Hmm... I guess it really depends on the "activities," ya know?

While I'd love to meet all of you I tend not to be a fan of big group gatherings.  I prefer time spent with a person one-on-one.  Maybe if I put some cash away I'll come down for the Passions gathering but I don't know, it really depends on what it's like...

If you guys settle on something, then someone let me know and I'll see if it sounds like my cup of tea...
