Hi...i am a student and I needed to do some research on a poet.  His name is Nicholas Hasluk and his poem is Islands.  He's Australian.  I'm not too sure whether this is the right place to ask but I can't find anything about him on the internet.  My research requires information on him and an explanation of his poem.  Can anyone be kind enough to help?? i would appreciate it so much! Thank you.

I think I can point you in the right direction.

The author you’re looking for is called Nicholas Hasluck, which is why your search came up blank. I can’t find a copy of his poem ‘Islands’ so I can’t help there. I can tell you he lives in Perth, was appointed as a Judge of the Supreme Court of Western Australia and as Chair of the Australian Literature Fund in 1998.

Happy hunting!

Btw if you find his poem can you drop me a line, I wouldn’t mind reading it.

hi...thanks for the correction, unfortunately it didn't help much as far as getting more info on the net.

i guess i'll have to start researching books, but thanks for the extra info.  Any ideas as to what to do, or where to search?

I’m surprised you didn’t find much out about the poet on the net, I put his name in a Yahoo search and got back 50-odd results. Try it in one of the spider based search engines and you should get a hundred times that.

The Info I supplied earlier came from one of those pages, I just picked out a couple of points that might lead you to places containing more info. If you want to do more research via books try a search of ‘Australian Poets’ there’s a site that lists all Australian literature, failing that try Amazon, a search on the author will bring up all the books he’s written. (You’ll find most are prose and nearly all are out of print but a good library should be able to supply a copy).

Good Luck

Craig
