I was wondering if someone can help me out. We are doing a charity theatre event in our local community for Halloween this Saturday and I was given the challenge of decorating the outside of the building.  We came up with the idea of making a scarecrow dressed to go to the theatre but with cobwebs on him because he has never made it inside.  The reason:  because he waits for his date who never showed and also he can't give up his popcorn and sodas so he isn't allowed in.  I know this sounds corny and it's so much to ask of someone.  But, do you have any ideas for a short poem we can print on a sign next to him?  He will be sitting outside the theatre on a bench.

Thank you so much in advance.  I know this is a long shot.

Nancy

P.S.  I love your site!!

Hi Nancy
We've had lots of Halloween poetry posted over the last couple of weeks.  Do you have any idea what sort of poem you're looking for?... Funny? Scary? Cute? Ghosts & Goblins?... Can you narrow it in a bit for us??

Trick or Treat..
Nancy..

I thought I'd have a little fun NacMac.
I'm not sure if I've captured your idea or not,
but I gave it a shot ...

******

CAUTION ... those who enter here,
Take heed, this is no jest,
A warning given out to all,
Hold tightly to your guest!

'Twas many years ago
This dapper gent was set to thrill,
Anticipating romance,
He arrived here dressed to kill.

A little early, there he stood
At theatre, in wait ...
With popcorn and a soda,
As he searched to find his date.

Through early show, then midnight run,
He lingered patiently,
As crowds dispersed, and lights turned out,
He wandered aimlessly.

They say he passed away right here,
For fate was too unkind;
He lingers still, and watches closely,
For his love to find.

And so the story must be told
On nights like this, 'tis true,
He lies in wait for other's dates,
Hold tight ... it could be YOU!!!

Kit, I love that poem!  It's for a children's charity event and just know they'll get a kick out of it!

If any other ideas come in, we would love to have a few different poems since these children will be in line outside next to the scarecrow waiting for up to 20 minutes with nothing else to do!  Thank you to each of you!!     Nancy

You're very welcome Nancy, and thank you so much for the kind words ... I'm glad it will work for you!!

Children in line for 20 minutes and nothing to do??? Now, "that" is scary!

You surely need a few more off-the-wall Halloweeny poems to tide them over. If you feel mine will do for the scarecrow, then I'm sure Nan can "scare" up a few more great, fun ones for the kids to read and pass around in line.  Good luck, and don't forget to come back and let us know how you make out!

Best wishes,
/Kit

Wanted to say thank you again for the wonderful poem!  It turned out great on Saturday for us!  The people standing in line loved it and asked why we didn't have more like it at all the sights!

I wish each of you a great Halloween with lots of fun and excitement!!

Sincerely, Nancy
