we danced in a frenzy
as the band play on and the woman
sang her heart out
we rocked
and we rolled
in a cow pasture
outside San Francisco
the music was our everything
we were as one with it
the gyrating crowd
seized the moment and flat assed
ran with it
deep within us
we seized the rhythm
dance steps were new to us
and yet we knew them by heart
synchronized?
oh hell no, not at all
we were the vanguard
of something new
something incredible we gave birth to
as we danced
as we listen to the band
of Big Brother and the Holding Company
with a broad signing
by the name of Janis Joplin
never heard of her
but we were as one with her
on that summer day
in that cow pasture
outside San Francisco, California

Heart-felt, wonderful, and nostalgic to read recollections of a time of a carefree belief in hope. Sadly, hope is a feather on the wind, and your inclusion of the great Janis Joplin might indicate that you agree? You have more than a list of poems on here, Jerry. You have a biography. Respect!
(I'm off to listen to Scott McKenzie.)

Thank you Redstart, and yeah none of us who were there that day could have imagined the path she would take. We were just one stoned-out crowd and loved what she was doing onstage. Oh, about the poems, I have quite a lot I grant you that. Been thinking about putting some of my "street" poems, this one would be included, in a book. Maybe later. I just finished a novel about horrible spousal abuse (it happened to my co-author) and reincarnation.

Sounds like a hoot of a time!
Man she could belt them out there!!
Too bad her regular dealer was out of town that day and his fill in gave her an overdose.
Many a blues session she sang at the old Fillmore West with guys like Hendrix and Albert King and the stuff was dynamite!!

Good visuals Jerry

Oh it was out of this world. This girl talked me into going, I didn't want to, she insisted and she had the equipment to back up her insistence, and I went. Enjoyed myself immensely. Wasn't too long I began to see her on TV and hear her records on the radio, although she had left Big Brother and the Holding Company. Thank you Eric.
