On old one but I was reminded today about indifference.
-------------

Clouds creep up from the rear
like the natural march of indifference
intent on a search and destroy
of the sky’s so heavenly blue.

It’s a silent but deadly approach
like the reality of a ghost
unseen but felt and known to be
an ineffective and useless guard
at the heart’s unmarked border post.

So crosses indifference speedy and swift
into the haven of love’s settled state
a warrior, gunman, thief, murderer,
in rampant and raging disregard
for what is intended to be.

And the sky that once vibrant and blue
succumbs to a dim and dull overlay
like the eyes of love once fearlessly clear
now brushed with the strokes
of complete indifference.

Flutter, flutter, and I flutter eyelids
simply today to no avail
because indifference begets indifference
in terms of section one hundred and three
of the perceived playact of life!

"of the perceived playact of life!" That says it all, doesn't it, Helen. Indifference can cut you off at the knees in the playact of life, leaving you alone and lonely until soon you are nothing because indifference has taken control of you . . .

If they give you ruled paper write sideways.

MANY grand lines in this 'write! ... such as:

"...the natural march of indifference" and

"an ineffective and useless guard
at the heart’s unmarked border..."

So much to ponder.
As reality would have it there's a lot of hard truths.   Got my wheels turning for sure.  Excellent writing honey girl.

Thank you everyone for your kind comments - and, Jo, the short story is my escape from an indifferent partner because I really didn't like the "feel" of indifference.  I may be a lot of things but indifferent?  No - and I didn't want to become that way through association.  Water under the bridge though.

indifference is just a different form of neglect. You have captured the essence of indifference perfectly here. Love your stuff!!!!

Hi Joyce.  And I was surprised to see your name pop up.  I guess we're the "oldies".  Nice to see you here and thank you for reading.

Thanks, Ida but this was an old on.  Those were the days when so much was so important to me.  I reckon I've mellowed somewhat.
