What a dear and loving spirit Virginia is!
How understanding she was of my initial confusion
With the coffee invites,
Because I should have been a patient to her and no more;
How right there, in the lounge,
in armsI thought I had no hope of ever being in,
I finally told her
what her valuable time means to me,
and how could she want to be more
than a clinician to me,
and why did she want to spend
more time with me than in the office,
and the wonderful tools she has fitted me with,
So I could hear again,
and made the gift of community so real to me,
the ten years she has put up with, cared for and treated me!
How she made me feel so loved and so special and cared about!
Like what could have happened? like, what did I do?
Why did she do this now? … more time, … what for
More time with me .. of all people … with me?
At a distance I have been so fond of her
But, I realized, okay, it was just a clinic.
And I kept it to myself.
She even let me hug her
At the end of our sessions!!! when she had to leave.
But, I realized, it’s just a clinic.
You can’t tell her because it’s  irrelevant anyway.

And then it was 9-30 and I finally stopped my babbling.
And then, unfortunately, she could not stay any longer
she went upstairs to see more patients
Who also needed her love and her care too.
How much more could I ever ask of her,
or even hope for with her
than what Ginny has already given me???
Now I know her gift really is for me.
And when they get me on the schedule for more work and email me,
Well, you’ll know how happy I will be,
And why!
And now I miss her even more terribly when I’m not there,
And know now that she missis me too,
when I’m not on her schedule,
like her dear ones miss her when she is not there …
and when will Mom be back?
And even when she is at work right now
and won’t have time to write me back, just now,
she is as close to my inbox
and as dear to my heart.

And how very wonderful to miss some one like that,
Because you need only clothes your eyes and think of them
And they are there, with you.

Maybe some day I could come to know
Her husband and her dear ones too.
How lucky, how blessed
To be so loved, so cared about by her!
But, of course,That might be a bit too much to hope for, I guess.
I mean, you have to be realistic
And it might just be impossible.
Because we can’t ever be with everyone
Who loves, cares and misses us. we can’t be with everyone
but how very wonderful to long, to cry, to hope like that?
Maybe I could even be
in Ginny’s circle of love …
If that isn’t too much to hope for …

O, Doctor! my eyes! …
Tell  me what is wrong?

Wonderfully heartfelt! To have such a caring person in your life even if you are only friends.
I hope you are able to hear again. My dad lost his hearing in Vietnam, so I know how difficult that can be. Wishing you good health!

Yes, Karen.
I have a severe hearing loss and Ginny fitted with a cochlear implant.  Over time and under care it seems like I can hear things that once heard 30 or 40 years and ll I can only say"my god my God.  I have been so fond of Ginny and she even let me hug her goodbye after work.  When she started talking about coffe with her when I called for some this or that work she would talk about coffee with her. This realization filled me with surprize and wonder because, okay, it's just a clinic and you have to be "realistic."
Thank you Karen your the only person to reply:-------------)

Your poem is filled with a special kind of love....your words warmed my heart and your reply is one I can so identify with.  I also have cochlear implants (2). It has changed my life in ways I never dared to dream of.  I don't want to hijack your thread..but I did want to share that with you.  I'm so happy for you and send the very best wishes for a bright future with your new ears.  It's exciting and a wonderful gift to really be able to hear and understand speech again.  Good luck DG.

Very touching and heartfelt indeed. She has the gift of giving which she gives everyday. A real angel. Thank you for posting. Loved the title too.
