A Wing and a Prayer

Here's round two, just for you, if you thought it wasn't true...
When I told you ol' Bob here was dead.
Cause if it walks like a duck, smells like it's out of luck...
And there's more meat on a chicken's forehead.

Sure, he was smooth as silk, but now it's just spilt milk...
The road to hell is paved with good intention...
'Twas all coming up roses, but right under your noses
The cure was lost to the price of no prevention.

Still, it ain't time well spent, trying to reinvent
The wheel from this side of the tracks.
A horse of the same color, just pour me another;
It's motivation, not inspiration that lacks!

It's the devil you know, after all, like a fly on the wall...
The story changes each time that you spin it.
It's what you say, not do; Just ask Bob, he'll tell you;
You can't win the game unless you're in it!

And Jack's a dull boy, with no time to enjoy
The world at the edge of his feet.
It's the price that you pay, building Rome in a day
For a different drummer with the same ol' worn out beat.

Early to bed, early to rise, it's funny how time flies...
And absolute power corrupts absolutely.
Wham Bam!  Thank you mam, now don't be such a ham,
Who'd buy the cow while getting their milk free?

Foot bleeding, gun in hand, great balls of fire, be damned!
It's near enough to drive one to drinking.
Just add one more chief to this Indian's grief...
Before sailing, I know my ship was sinking.

Still, no future in the past; he who laughs loudest laughs last,
For all that the devil may care.
There's a moral you know? Easy come, easy go...
We all live but on a wing and a prayer.

I'm breathing hard like I just walk a mile backward, Michael. Damn! This poem is on speed.

Um, I'd read part I and I tried to think of more and I couldn't.

Your poetry always amazes me.

It's so lovely to be able to share the blue page with you again Michael.

Holy smokin' catfish...
I don't think you miss one.
I thought I knew what they say, but
I can see I was out in left field with that thought.

Enjoyed, Michael!!

There's no such thing as worn out words and phrases when you pick up your pen!! For you don't just breathe life into them... you put wings on their feet (no pun intended... thinking Mercury here, not iambic! LOL)

Loved every line!!!
