You Know What they Say

Kill the messenger, bury the hatchet...
If it’s truth you want, search the stars.
Yeah, ‘tis the season, still I need no reason;
No, I might as well be on Mars.

A victim’s retreat, marked by blood on the street,
Just call it the luck of the draw.
Still, it ain't the same if no one knew his name –
It's not illegal if nobody saw.

Cause the apple don't fall far from the tree at all,
And we all know the name of the game.
But for the pick of the litter, all that's gold doesn't glitter –
The more things change, the more they stay the same.

Ah, the best laid plans of mice, and of men...
You can't have your cake and eat it too.
And so with a grin, like a prom night virgin,
It seems bit off a bit more than he could chew.

Yeah, if it's idle hands the devil's workshop demands,
Don't go question the game while you're in it.
A round peg, a square hole, run it up the flagpole...
There's a SUCKER born every minute!

Early bird gets the worm... don't that just make you squirm?
We all just sat by as the day dragged.
But with rose colored glasses, just as slow as molasses,
I think ol' Bob zigged when he should have zagged!

But there's more fish to fry, so here's mud in your eye...
I gave an inch – he took the who nine yards!
Now the kettle is black, and there's no coming back...
I guess for him, it just wasn't in the cards.

And you know what they say, yeah it's all cliché,
Just remember, don't let the bedbugs bite.
Whatever floats your boat, it's one hell of a note,
The party's over man, turn out the light.

My first reaction was to laugh and applaud in delighted appreciation for the wonderful tapestry you've woven - for you've taken so many worn out sayings and created something fresh and new and beautiful! *S* Then I read it again and that appreciation was magnified as the internal rhyme worked its magic on my mind! This is fantastic!!!

Everything has already been said, that I would have said if I were earlier, but I was late, so, I'll just say, wish I'd've said that!

"But there's more fish to fry, so here's mud in your eye..."

I think I just got off a roller coaster ride.
And it was a voyage at break neck speed...

Enjoyed the ride, Michael.
