For those who think that Congress is
A lazy, loafing group
I'd like to say that isn't true
And I'll give you the scoop.

A major problem in our land
(And, no, it's not Chris Dowd)
Is those commercials on t.v.
That play extremely loud!

Imagine one relaxing
Watching Fringe or C.S.I.
Then have commercials cutting in
With volume that's sky high!!

Those sponsors know just what to do
To get their message through.
A full assault on eardrums
That belong to me and you!

I watched "My Generation" show
About a group of grads
Then almost lost my hearing
By an ad for maxi-pads!!!

An epidemic it's become
But Congress heeds the call
And passed a resolution
Solving it, once and for all.

Of course we do have other things
Important in our nation,
Like war and debt and bankruptcy
And spiraling inflation.

But these are trivialities
To be put off, you see,
Compared to those commercials
Playing loud on our t.v.!

Don't think that Congress doesn't listen
To our fervent pleas.
They've made our lives much happier
While watching our t.v.'s

Perhaps you feel that giving this
Priority is strange
But t.v. watchers know that it
Was high time for "a change".

Or maybe they have realized
That it will come to be
After November elections,
They'll have more time for t.v.!

Since I know you are a grouchy old teacher, you might look at line 5, I think you have a spacing issue. :-)

It seems to me that in my past
only a year or two ago
that politics, which seems to last
were never subject to such shows

Commercials of cigs, wine & beer
talking genies and toiletries
seemed to be short, near & dear
we loved a kitchen's amenities

Where is Speedy Alka Seltzer
and where are the chewing gum twins?
I'd like to see those commercials now
to give me my evening grin.

I can`t watch the latest tv shows here in Japan so I have to download them off the internet.  So no commercials for me.  I tried going to the network sites but was denied access because I am an overseas resident.  Maybe the Balladeer could let the networks know that overseas viewers would like to watch programs off of their websites.

Another clever poem, Michael!

They found time to do everything before they left town for 2 months except schedule an up or down vote to extend the tax cuts.

We will REMEMBER IN NOVEMBER!

Thanks, folks!

Hey, Earl! Ted Turner is not returning my calls but have you ever tried HULU? I watch tv shows there all the time.

Along with HULU, this one is also excellent.
