Remembered~

Morning stretched red silk sash across the clouds
And I ,on one elbow, looked contentedly at the pale flush of pink
That illuminated the rise and fall of cinnamon breast
As you slept involved in dream I would never know
But would draw upon the small of your back
As you in another night might rise to elbows and read to me
While I captured the ebb and flow of tides
That comes with listening to you recite the verse of Rumi

We might touch then the silk
And draw boundaries along the sea, our paths and gardens marked
In careful hand so that when we woke
Some other morn to the sounds of streets
Our ways could wend back along the maps we’d made
As we now named days as on would children
Conceived in fertile weeks of twined arms and legs
When sighs and the soft breath of wind
Wafted through the window

We watched minutes run….

But this day has begun and I lay content for now
To watch the light of sun reveal the curl of hair
And the lips soft part

Remembering with fingers touch
The topography of your cheek and the elevations of brow
As will I the memories of lips that touched my own
In a surrender un bartered by words or phrases written
On the velum of fairy tales

I drew with quill
Fine lines then to cover the shoulders
Naming regions after the hurricanes I knew
And upon the hips I penned them in an indigo
To match the deepest of the seas we’d seen

Epilogue

“you remember her well” my companion said in a soft voice
“and you remember her for the good and strong qualities of life”
he added as he turned to walk away

“I have business to which I must attend” he added over his shoulder
“ the only sure things” he laughed softly
“are Death and taxes”

“Yes” I said softly
“and the love I have for her”

“Sometimes” he said as he stopped and turned
“there are things not even I can explain”

ah, many thanks Ma'am... especially since your eyes have seen this before.

it ends the Map Series, and I thought to get it out of the way, tie up that loose end to the previous postings. LOL

being a voyeur in this series has been a pleasure..(as it usually is, being a voyeur I mean)now I shall don my map print speedo and my cowboy boots and scurry to the beach so some middle aged vixen can savor my topographical features as you did those of the lady in your poem...

(chuckling) Well no one wishes to see me in a speedo and cowboy boots, but good luck with your middle aged vixen and enjoy the beach.
Thanks for dropping by... always appreciated
