I can see why they say this city is haunted
The silent nights below
dimly lit streets
with a pale orange glow

only the murmurs of drunken stags
young wayward travelers
dressed in rags
bellowing from blocks away

you see, no sound ever escapes these walls
only to ricochet until lost
returning to once more where it left
on cold stone licks

in the narrow streets
where cobblestone meets
granite and limestone bricks

and moments ago
no, hours
the beautiful ladies
once passed, with
a traded glance
like I was that ghost

passing through the walls
at the end
and...
up and down...
around these halls

like the silent snow flakes
that never hit the ground

lifted up
buffed about

never settling...
nor making a sound
