Lumpy oatmeal makes me crazy!

0 posted 2011-05-17 12:57 PM

There were nights
Some black and cold
Some filled with mosquito hum
And midnight sun
That I sat and wrote

Thoughts of nothing
Memories of everything
Drifted across my screen
Nightmares and day dreams
Filled a background white
And filled me
As words catipulted
From my fingertips

Nights alone, silence
Filled the room
And I wrote

Dear Alison, your meditative nights come into focus through your words, they offer you what we are all in need of ... silence and aloneness and the opportunity to contemplate life.
I wonder how it is with the midnightsun ... the natural sleep-wake rhythm may be somehow altered.
I see you writing at your desk and I feel serenity.
Beautifully done.
Love and hugs.

For us insomniacs the midnight sun hoovers inside our heads. It is then that the true nature is exposed and the love/hate affair with words and highlighted.

Liked this poem.

I absolutely love the reckless abandon implied by "thoughts of nothing, memories of everything."  You're just being overwhelmed and losing control to your creative outlet.  That's wonderful.

I know that, too, being a shut-in when the world is simply off.  It's also nice to go for walks, if your neighbourhood is safe enough to permit it, and just enjoy the quiet and the stillness everywhere.  Ever been to your elementary school's playground, or a park you used to frequent as a child, at night?  It feels like you are inside your memories, walking through them, with nobody around to disturb you.

I think most everyone on this site will be able to relate to you on this.  Thank you for sharing the poem, I enjoyed it.

"Thoughts of nothing
memories of everything"

I feel hollows deep reading this, the sort that echo with ghosts and maybe touches of sorrows we would not keep if it were possible not to own them.

Yet it is the one place, our thoughts, that paint the images of life within, so intrinsic and compelling.  I think of the midnight sun, illumination when one would otherwise sleep.  I can't help wondering of the patterns woven outwardly to perpetuate such reverie.

Beautiful, Alison! ~K

Margherita,

Thank you for understanding that need for alonetime.  It's such a special part of my life.  I live the quiet of night.  I guess our bodies do adjust to the extremes.  I like the dark of winter - it's quiet and comforting - very snuggly.  I also love the intense light of summer and hearing birds at 11:30 at night as the sun streams through my window.  It's all very special to me ... and that is what makes me a nightowl!

Love,
Alison

Alison
I think most writers can relate.
You have put it down in words here so concisely but with such depth of meaning.
The mood captured so simply yet so completely.
A very enjoyable read.
