Remembering my friend Lise

The moment I knew
of your transition,
all the memories of youth
rushed forth from my mind
pressing themselves
into my heart
to be experienced again,

while a waterfall of tears
blurred my perception
of the present moment,
to just be with you
to hold your hands
to enjoy our friendship
just a little longer.

Do you remember too?

Those times ...

... of careless laughter,
when the world was ours
to fulfil all of our desires?
... of unshakable trust,
when lovingness was
our permanent mood?
... of lightness
when we danced
upon luscious meadows
and moved like gazelles
uphill, downhill and
along the streets?
... of crazy loudness
while singing love songs
till our throats were sore?
... of happy smiles shared
through the open car windows
with all those who happened
to cross our way?

And later ... those times ...

... of sobering reality
when you decided
to get married in a hurry
to offer your baby
a loving home and family
to be born into?
... of freedom and wild dreams
coming to a halt,
when you lived your
blessed motherhood,
always challenged
between a demanding job
and intense family duties?

Yes, I know, you will
remember forever and me too.

But your reward was a
wonderful son
the sunshine of your days,
the same who came now
to accompany you home,
back home to Switzerland,
from your sojourn in Spain,
just for the span of a few hours
before your final departure
towards the gates of Heaven.

... all the memories of youth
rushed forth from my mind
pressing themselves
into my heart
to be experienced again ...

Goodbye, my dear friend,
dance now on the celestial meadows
and enjoy the new dimension
where limitless freedom
and wild dreams will finally
and blissfully manifest.

(dedicated to my friend Lise, who will forever be part of my cherished memories of childhood and youth; she succumbed to cancer)

Dear Margherita,

My heart goes out to you.  Thank you for sharing Lise with us ~ and I believe that you have kept a tiny piece of her alive on this earth as we now carry her in some part of our memories.  You wrote a beautiful and loving remembrance. I know that you will miss your friend ~ and I know that you will share her with many as you have today.

With love to you, beautiful one.

Thank you, dear Jerry, for your kind comment.

Thank you, sweet Alison, for your heartwarming words. I met Lise for the last time in Switzerland two years ago and it comforts me that we had the opportunity to spend an evening together. She already fought her illness and the consequent worries had changed her. We stood in touch through e-mail. To lose a beloved friend who has shared one's childhood and youth is very sad indeed, but the memories bring smiles and joy still.

Love,
Margherita

My dear friend,

you don't suppose that my Louise met your

Dear dreamgal, the loss of your sister must be very hard on you, dear friend. Thank you for your loving words and comment, as well as again for your beautiful poem for me. It feels so good to be understood.

Dear Karilea, that's a beautiful thought indeed. Your Louise and my Lise might well be smiling upon us remembering with tenderness what has been. Our faith is so comforting. Thank you from my heart!

Love and hugs to both.

Margherita, your poem expresses so beautifully the freedom and wild abandonment of youth...to the acceptance of maturity and responsibilities of adulthood. Along the way, our lives are filled with the beautiful memories of friendships won and the sadness of friendships...lost.

Thank you for sharing.

Thank you, dear Helen, your kind comment warmed my heart. I really do have an incredible amount of memories to cherish and they literally "flood" me now.

Dear Diana, sorry for causing sobs, you have such a tender big heart. Thank you so much for sharing my sorrow. As we were full of mischief when young, I also smile a lot remembering.

Dear mystilill, first of all welcome to Pip. And thank you for your very loving comment. Looking forward to reading your poetry too.

Love and hugs.

Maga Margherita, what a keepsake treasure this poem would make for Lise's family. I hope that you will send it to them.
I'm sorry for your loss ~ and yet happy for your precious memories of your dear friend.
Knowing you as I do, Lise must have valued your devotion and friendship all those years.
Love is energy and therefore it cannot die. Lise continues to love you from her heavenly home...

God bless her ~ and you,

What a beautiful tribute, Margherita. How lucky your were to have such a friend. I have no lasting friends from childhood. we moved around too much, and I miss that.

The loss of a friend leaves a void that no one can fill. They have a place in your life and your heart that's theres alone.

I relate strongly to this beautiful write having lost three friends to the dreaded C, one of them being Marge Timdal who was a member of this site for a long time. I've set up a special tribute page for her at my website if you'd like to visit it.

Namaste,
Marcia

Thank you, dear James! Just wrote a letter to her son, sending him this poem. And ... well I am in tears again. Oh these memories of youth how they haunt us!
