Homesick

People often ask me if I miss home
and I never know quite what to say

and now I think of...

Those many nights I stood alone
on the top of some high place

watching a thunderstorm
God's greatest display of power

a cloud ten miles high
from tip to toe
lit up in a violent brilliant show

violet, orange, blue and green
the hot wind before the rain
the cool breeze following it, again

chasing the storm
standing in a field
those wide Texas plains
my trusty car by my side

taking me there
everywhere

so yes, yes, I miss those nights

but here I gaze upon a woman
God's greatest display of beauty
and love

mystery
and how a man hangs like a fool,
on her every word
her gaze

would I trade those thunderstorms
for her touch, her eyes

I am that tempest
in body and soul

and only time will tell...

I think this is one of my favorites of yours. The Texas tempest..sounds like when you finally get lucky, she will be even luckier

hello martiniat, I love the two sides of your poem, the two storms and the deductions of feelings they induce...It is well crafted and very well done...
