Yep, it's a very uncaring world.
Like you're writing here a great amount of people don't see the needs of others just the wants of their own pleasure.
However, not all of mankind can be grouped in that catagory but there are times when most people feel like the character in this poem.
I thought the theme and the main character were very well imaged.

Very enjoyable read Jerry.

I hear you, Lori, loud and clear.

I guess it is feast or famine, DS. At least being laughed at means you are making some kind of impression.

Ah, it's natural to think of yourself, if you don't . . . who? I just observe the world where we have massive, instant communications and we still wind up hating one another. so the communication alley is a one way street it seems. Thanks, Eric.

Hahaha!! I thought so, Mike, but you were the only one to say so, and that entitles you to the Kewpie doll. You can pick it up on your way out, and thank you.

Hi Jerry...All I could think of was how cold you must be.  Here's a blanket for ya and a hug.

Jerry

Here's a pair of warm boots to go along with that blanket.
Here's a sterno and a couple cans of soup in case the power goes out and you end up with the boys under the bridge.

important us, screw you

Such truth. In a world with little compassion,  how does one communicate with another? heh I'll ponder that. Enjoyed.
