The Grand Tour

Like a pack of wolves
shaded eyes measure.
Nervous and twitching, they wait.
Legs and lungs, lean and mean
Weapons of speed straddled beneath pistons of flesh.
They visualize the upcoming feast.

The gun goes up and the journey begins.
Teeth grind and muscles strain.
Rubber caresses open road with artistry and skill
Multicolored warriors begin their journey
down the path of pain and courage.

Flesh and machine,
melded together from hours of training,
perform a ballet of speed and grace.

The hot sun shines, their bodies sweat.
Soon the strong impose their will on the pack.
The weak cower and fall off, their pain overwhelming.
With heads hung low,
their chests and legs burning,
they slow, beaten, never to see the prize

It continues.

The leaders endure.
Suffering, climbing, swerving, attacking,
a chess match of experience and conviction.
They roll on towards their goal,
fighting for position,
probing for any weakness to be exploited.

Then suddenly!
Like predators on the brink of starvation,
the pack smells the finish.
With a surge it erupts,
a beautiful frenzy of symmetry and motion.
The sound of effort, a sympathy of courage and desire.

Faster
Faster
At 200 meters their faces are distorted masks of obsession and need.
Faster
Faster
Win
Win or die
still faster!
The line
THE LINE!!

I hope one day to see it in person Yann. It would be a dream come true.
