Our time seemed perfect from the start
We felt it had been so long due
The sort of time when hope springs high
And all one's wishful dreams come true

We met, we laughed, we reminisced
And all the world seemed bright and fair
With golden sunshine, singing birds
Sweet scent of summer in the air

But every lovely day must pass
Each happy interlude must end
Now the hours have slipped away
And we must say farewell my friend

Not knowing if in time to come
We'll meet upon some distant shore
Or if these few brief precious hours
Will have to last for evermore

I'm glad the gentle dusk is kind
It hides the tears one can't explain
A perfect day is over now
And it will never come again...

Ohhhhhhh, but it was a perfect day! How enticing, dear Katriona! A perfect day that made for an equally perfect poem. You captured the fulfillment, as well as the melancholy at the moment of parting so intensely.

Love the picture, it suggests exactly what you have expressed.

Love and hugs and wishes that you will meet again ...

Sad, and sweet poetry.
And back to waiting for more.

Hi Margherita,
This story is not about myself, but my mother.  She was a young woman in London during the second world war where she met a Canadian soldier and they fell in love. Well, you know, distances were far in those days, she went back home to Scotland and he to Canada, they wrote for a while then grew apart, and she met my father instead a few years later. Thanks for reading and commenting and for your always sweet replies.
Love
Katriona :-)

Wow, knowing the story behind the story(which i love to do) makes this all the more touching and poignant.

Beautifully written and with a perfect supporting image as usual. You never disappoint Katriona!
