Anonymity

I dreamed of you last night.
Just after midnight, early this morning,
before I awoke anyway.
We were at a Led Zeppelin concert, you and I, a few friends,
thousands of addicts high on music.
You enjoyed it, and me – I enjoyed you.
We sat in the grass your back against my chest,
legs spread out, yours inside mine, our space,
the aura around us mere inches of heat in the ultraviolet,
dancing and fluctuating in time with the beat,
defining us by it’s invisible radiance.
Or we stood, the whole length of you
hot against the front of me,
my arms clasped around your waist.
We swayed to the music, driven by it’s pulse,
sometimes frenzied, sometimes sensuously rubbing,
pressing in all the right spots,
your body hot against the front of me.
I enjoyed it – you enjoyed me.
We sang ourselves hoarse, screaming the words at times,
your cheek melding with mine at others,
oblivious to the addicts around us,
less so than they were of us.
We enjoyed them – they enjoyed our anonymity.
In time I awoke, arms craving you between them,
still feeling the softness and the heat
against the front of me.
I wanted you passionately in the soul of me,
breathing my life,
filling my aura with an intensity almost seen.
You,
You were just a dream along for the ride,
a pleasurable fantasy.
And we, who have always been . . .
are strangers.
Still.

a really beautiful poem James, you captured the essence of love and music with poetic flow and vision, I thought the twist at the end was wonderful too...
