we walked the perfumed stones
as if they were friends of god
leading us through their valleys

I drew your personality there
on your cheeks and forehead
with the black ink from the sky

you said your hair knew satan
you felt him touching thoughts
and making you want to quit running

but you hung your work shirt on fingers
on the tree of my man hands
and made me hold your skin ends too

while you scratched your back
on warm water that left shimmer wounds
I kissed them until the scars were invisible

and when sin was winter I was your book
