It quite simply wasn’t meant to be,
At least that’s what the head keeps telling me,
I’ve already got a family
You see,
Didn’t think you cared for me
Until recently,
After years of loving you constantly,
That’s fate isn’t it? Typically.

So I know the head’s right in that it’s not meant to be,
Even though the heart won’t agree,
Telling the body it wants to freely
Feel your electricity
And the subsequent ecstasy
Of the love between you and me.

Still, I’ll agree with the head that it just can’t be,
It’s just a shame the heart speaks differently.

I sympathize with your inner turmoil. Whenever I have been in a similar situation where I am of two minds, so to speak, I feel totally discombobulated and out of sync.

You wrote of your "inner battle", very well!

A fine example of what I call a "slice of
'everyperson-life dejavu" write!

[I believe that most of use have 'been there'
(experienced the conflicted and painful
  circumstance described here; etc.)]

serious and sustained applause!!

Lovely poem.
The phrase ‘follow your heart springs to mind’ but perhaps that isn’t true.
