So I can only speak of love
in the splurge of roses
and in the long body
of the river, shining
in its silks, a still
silver virulence, exact
as the hours drain

into the buttercups,
swelter and whatever it sees,
it swallows, even in this,
my garden of black and red agonies,
the roses broach their carmine in mirrors
hardened by hands,
perennial with the earth,

as perched, the redcock watches
its resurrection in the sun,
and his kisses parch, his wings,
torn shawls of the veil
that begins to lift, and swift,
those intolerable vowels
enter my heart,

and I am his,
even in these long absences

that keep me pinned
beneath the lavender night, love
comes, cuts the hand, its thorns
unfurl the violent blossoms in fistfuls
of leaves, grasping
at its most radiant postures,

the petaled gesture of hands,
fold over the flesh of roses,

                          humbled,
                             felled.

ah~ I think the rose..perhaps the most written about flower..and I have oftent hought aI would not care to see another poem about them.. that used them as metaphor..

but again... you prove me wrong to closing my mind to the idea something so well worn can be new....

lovely ma'am.... indeed... lovely

Fine lines and images!:

I am particularly fond of the beginning:

“I can only speak of love
in the splurge of roses
and in the long body
of the river, shining
in its silks, a still
silver virulence, exact
as the hours drain…”;

AND:

“my garden of black and red agonies”;

“…pinned beneath the lavender night”;

“petaled gesture of hands,
fold over the flesh of roses”

Applause!!
