OUTSIDE UNDERSTANDING    song 129

Love's been taking off and landing
making open hearts disposed.
How much good time love can give
Lord I'll never know.
Just when you think joy will live
you're left standing on your own.
With a gaping hole to fill
where love once made a home.

Are most lovesick fantasies
premature at birth?
Why does it seem reality
will turn them into hurt?
What are we searchin for
in the stream of time?
What is behind the force
that makes our love decline?

Love's circling and finding
victims everywhere.
A thrill to drill into souls
of lovers unaware.
And when you're on a trip
you're never quite aware
the love you travel with
Can crash in deep despair.

Love lies outside understanding
offering a prize.
Where the heart is too demanding
and there's none too wise.
Just when you think you're done with it,
it's bigger than your pride.
Once again you start to slip
back into paradise.

Love often seems to be beyond understanding, so it's a good thing it isn't beyond reach!(?)
Good to hear your voice again Eric.

Sending this back to the top where it belongs!  Love is a timely thing, isn't it?
Your lyrics depict it so well.  (Saving this for my library...}  I am currently reading a book about practices of diVinci that made him successful.   One is to embrace ambiguitities.  Love and life is full of those, eh?  I think your lyrics show that.  Much enjoyed!

My brother was the musician and lyricist; I try to compose poems.

yet, I always sang my own songs in the shower...

and this one resonated within those frames.

Thank you, Ethome.

I really like the lyrics or poem that you have written but it begs the question Love's...what?

Good to see your writing again.

a most fine ‘write’!...
[and thought-provoking ‘read’]

I am especially fond of:

“Just when you think joy will live
you're left standing on your own.
With a gaping hole to fill
where love once made a home”;

“What are we searchin’ for
in the stream of time?
What is behind the force
that makes our love decline”;

“Love's circling and finding
victims everywhere.”;

serious applause!!

I enjoyed your thoughts on love...I believe that everytime someone speaks of love they define it...it's through thoughts and speech that come from the heart that love is acted upon...for love is spoken of in words but expressed in actions...James

Hey secondhanddreampoet thanks you for those kind reflections and the positive comments, much appreciated.

Hi again Celeste yes I can imagine you quiet and reflective cause you have those great imagination ideas that keep on flowing....Sorry, no youtube.....

James what a nice philosophical explanation I'd say and thanks for dropping in and sharing that.

This is definitely one I'd love to HEAR... because I can't read it without melodies creeping in. *S* You speak so much truth here, my friend... and you do so beautifully!!
