OH CHILD, OH CHILD

oh child,
oh child,

you stumble
toward me
like the drunken uncle
who staggered
through my childhood

and from
your excited mouth
come mumbling
echoes
of my mother’s
nursing home bed

you reach
my outstretched hands
and in your smile
I see
the miniature tombstone
of your solitary
tooth

oh child,
oh child,
throw your arms
around my neck,
there is much
for you to teach me,
and much
I would forget

Yes, we could all learn so much from children but the forgetting is easier because it requires change.  Really liked the thinking behind this poem.

Wonderful words here m'friend.
Much enjoyed this piece.
