I'M READY TO GO

My spirit is broken and my days are meaningless,
Old age is upon me and I'm ready for the grave.
The color of my eyes has grown dim from sorrow,
For all I have loved and was unable to save.

Where are those who once gladly shook their hands with mine?
Or has time hidden their hearts from understanding.
Someone tell me, why so many choose to be evil,
And why life is so painful and demanding.

I can't help but wish for the grave to be my new home,
For my light of hope is beyond my mortal sight.
I'm ready to go and make my bed in the darkness,
Resting peaceful, in the dust of the night.

Lord, all my purpose has been taken away,
Because from those I love most, I live apart.
I'm one hundred years old, but with your help, I’ll fly,
All the way to heaven back to the souls of my heart.
