The clock just stroked 12pm
And the smoke, it’s getting stronger
There are people crying in the streets
We can’t stay here any longer

There’s policemen running up the road
Shouting orders from afar
“Get out while you still can”
“For god sakes get in the car”

The hours passed and many burned
There’s no cure for the dead
Smouldered tree’s and burnt out homes
Nothing more needs to be said

The flames have got us good this time
And their taking blood for blood
Three towns’s just wiped away
There’s nothing left but mud

The clock just stroked 1am
And the flames are getting stronger
Australia’s in a crisis
We can’t deny it any longer

Fire trucks and helicopters
Can be heard above the shouting
But the death toll’s rising quickly
We’re at 96 and counting....

For those of you who don't know Sunday 8th February 2009 has just become one of the biggest tradgedy's in Australian history. Today the bush fire crisis in Victoria, Australia has claimed 96 Lives, 750 homes, 2 schools and 3 towns. It's left 250 Australian's injured, 75 schools closed and over a thousand fire-fighters struggling. The fires, believed to be started by arson are by far the worst in Australian History books. Localservices are seeking aid in forms of blood, clothing and money too help provide a roof for those people who are without homes. So today as your sitting in your home surrounded by pictures and memories of all the people you love and adore. Spare a momment of your thoughts for the live's lost and affected by the fire that is far from over.

I am so sorry to hear of the tradgedy in Victoria, Revenge. I live in So, California where it's raining now and the trouble here is mudslides (for now) Summer always brings the threat os fire and we've had some pretty bad ones in the last few years. 2007
was terrible. I understand what the people of Austrailia are going through and I pray you get some relief soon. I will look for the address to send donations and talk to
those who might be able to help.
             A sympathetic hug t Austrailia,
                                    Ida

Thankyou very much Ida...

It's such a tradgedy for australia. We are also suffering from floods in the top alf of the country. Isn't it ironic?

RevengeIsMine, it is indeed such a horror story, I have been fine in my town of Pyalong, my sister was evacuated in Heathcote Junction and my parents live below the Kinglake mountain in a town called Humevale where 5 people have lost their lives. Many of my friends have homes about the areas, have not heard what has happened with them, will find out at work tomorrow. So many stories have been told that are not true, until seen many of us are unsure. Thanks for making everyone here aware of the Victorian situation, none know of tomorrow and its intent.
Take care my friend and stay safe.

I have heard of this tragedy in the news and shivered. Your poem brings deep emotions.
Let's hope that the flames can finally be extinguished.
So many lives destroyed! My heart goes out to all those involved.

Love,
Margherita

Hoping for your continued safety, dear poet friends. My heart grieves for all the lost people and homes, and for the wildlife that more than likely perished as well.

You're definitely in my thoughts and prayers. I lost my home to a hurricane not quite 5 months ago and it was terrifying and horrible... but fire has to be so much worse. Stay strong... and stay safe. If only tears could douse the flames... *sigh*

Thank you for this, RevengeIsMine.  I saw it on TV, and it is absolutely horrifying, especially the deaths of the people and the wildlife and any domestic animals as well.

My daughter (who barely talks to me) lives in Bathurst, but she and her children and her ex-husband are fine.

My prayers for Australia as a whole and may the fires and the floods be over as soon as possible.
