Before reading this poem please bear in mind that I am writing from a purely moralistic point of view. I am not a religious man, in fact I am an atheist, but religious imagery does provide the perfect metaphor for the difference between right and wrong.

A raven flies an angel falls
On this austere day
From pits of hell the devils hand
Reaches out in false dismay

The fallen angel wreathed in smoke
A halo black as night
A twisted and corrupt being
True perversion of light

For fealty he promises
A rune etched ebon blade
To wield the power of dread spirits
Over all things evil made

A suit of armour draped in skulls
And blessed in innocent blood
To strike fear into the hearts of men
As only Hades could

Sorceries to rend and tear
The fabric of space and time
Endless power no remorse
All this could be mine

But I will take the silver shield
And stand against the dark
The pure white fire of blessed life
A brief but blinding spark

A hammer of the righteous
A pair of seraph wings
The healing power of saving light
The grace that wisdom brings

Every man must face the choice
Between what’s right and wrong
To raise their voice in endless rage
Or righteous battle song

A fine write, Suncleaver.
Good vs bad is a moral issue.
I have a spiritual side, but am not religious.

You did a good job here.

I think we wouldn't recognize the light without knowing of darkness, good versus bad, right versus wrong, as we live in this world of duality. We are the sole responsibles for our constant choices and the relative consequences. The art of living is the result of a fascinating series of choices ... and love is the key to move ahead on this Path of existence, with or without religious beliefs.

Thought provoking, thank you.

Love,
Margherita
