These are our children
allow them to speak.
Don't silence their voices
and call them down weak.

These are the children
that will fight our fights.
Don't call them ignorant
don't say that they might
drop guns at the borders
and plant the daisies
as they squint into microscope
looking to cease
diseases created for wars we decree
in the name of our forefathers
who stated that we

were meant to be formed for sanctuary,
as we slaughtered the peoples of nativity.
Inspiring a freedom of collars and thought--
replacing our "shoulds"
with some hope of what "ought."

These are our children.
Allow them to speak.
Let us age graceful
acknowledging meek
inherits the world
in the books of the sage:

These are our children.
It's their time to rage.

I enjoy the passion you depict in all of your pieces.  This just rings off the page.

Very powerful write, dear Karen. Thought provoking. Every generation has its own way to learn the lessons of love. The road is bumpy, but in the end it comes to that: awaken to love and plant the daisies.

Love,
Margherita

Wow, Serenity, I think this is one of my favorite of your writes, well versed, nice rhyme and rythem, and a very Poignant post.

Very nice.  WT.

Much enjoyed!  I also have a Daisy.  She is my darling little Maltese poodle.

"replacing our "shoulds"
with some hope of what "ought."

...an eloquent reminder that if we do not learn from the past, then we are doomed to repeat it...intriguing, powerful, passionate...all of the above...good write...
