Like blood possessed unseen
love moves in me a sustenance
that feeds the soul not me
and in the knowing of these times
there’s a tear that propagates more tears
in the dark of lonely nights.

That tear is like my DNA;
it makes me who I am,
a baby abandoned
on the sidewalk of this life
and babies cry in fearful fright
in the dark of lonely nights.

And the dark of lonely nights
bears witness to that cry and fright
like one dispossessed
of the spirit of true love
and as it comes again, again,
I feel the meld and join
with its heartlessness.

I cry of course for I’m not me
when joined in loveless harmony
but such the way of life’s design
that all who meld and join with dark
must come again unto the light ~
somewhere, sometime, beyond the ken
of babies on the sidewalk!

Thank you, Rhia.  I'm hoping for the power to dissipate because then so too will the emotion behind the words ... but I wonder, are we who we really are when emotion lost and buried?

Helen, this aches. This truly aches. A soulful, doleful piece of writing.
You emote with the best! Dang, I reeeally felt this one! You express your feelings and emotions so poetically ~ and powerfully!

Wrapping you in a warm, pink blanket of loving Light,

Linda

Thank you so much, dear Linda.  Strange to say but I do have the love I so richly deserve.  It's just not in the here and now ... but, no, that's probably incorrect.  It is in the here and now but not physically visible - and that's why "babies" cry.

May your new year be filled with all good things.  Mine will be in between the tears.

Love
Helen

Helen,

I read your poem out loud and was - well, I was mesmerized.  Each word seemed to weep as they were read - and yet, there is so much beauty in how you put them together so poetically.  You are a poet who moves me with each poem you share.

Happy New Year to you.

Thank you, Alison and James, for reading and for commenting.  There is so much to "move" us in life but sometimes we're so busy that we don't pay it enough attention.  Fortunately what moves us is also moving and so we are able to be moved again and again.  Something like that.

Helen,

When a poem slows my reading, I know I'm in for trouble!   I love the "all" of this.  Your DNA comparisons and baby on the sidewalk were powerful and well understood by this reader.  I'm convinced we will see those we love in a reality somewhere/sometime, perhaps, in another dimension.  They do seem to be a part of our DNA!   Wishing you warm, happy thoughts on this cold wintry day!
