Harwood Manor

Harwood Manor sets all alone beside a wooded glen
Its dark grey walls hold quietly the secrets deep within
The house has set in emptiness for many, many, years
And the town folk only whisper of its tragedy and tears

The last to call the manor home were a lady and her brothers
And since their passing long ago there have been no others
When they first moved into the house they were a happy clan
But things began to happen that were not within their plan

One evening as the woman was preparing for the night
She heard an eerie tapping noise that gave her quite a fright
When she looked out the window the face within her view
Was a horror like she’d never seen or ever wanted to

The creature there was scratching at the seal around the glass
Its rotted features stared at her with eyes that glowed like brass
The window pane was shattered as the creature pushed it out
And the thing outside came scuttling in as the woman gave a shout

It grabbed the woman by her hair and flung her to the floor
The thing gave her a vicious bite as her brothers reached the door
One of them fired a pistol shot at the creature as it fled
They quickly found a trail outside where the bullet wound had bled

The trail led 'cross a lonely road to an old cemetery wall
Beyond it was a burial crypt where they saw the evil crawl
Inside they found a coffin in the center of the room
And the thing that they had followed was lying in the tomb

The brothers burned the awful thing with a lamp of kerosene
With the hope the hideous creature would never again be seen
They took their injured sister from the manor house that week
When questioned about the incident none of them would speak

The people who live near there say the creature isn’t dead
And Harwood Manor welcomes you, if you should need a bed
So if you dare to stay there, keep a candle burning bright
And don’t be surprised by tapping in the middle of the night

In honor of Halloween
