I want you to know
that I understand the grip
that chilled you
on a violet skied
sunny summer day,
hope a distant loss
of some childhood daydream,
or maybe something
someone then
had for you.
But you always knew
it wouldn’t
be
so easily, you always knew
that you’d
be
in the way.
I want you to know
that I understand, though I
tossed the gun away
years ago,
perhaps too cowardice
I was
to take your way,
perhaps too numb.
I want you to know
that I will never forget
the pure sadness
of your face
the last time I saw you,
or forgive myself
for putting it out
of my mind,
until now,
until it really doesn’t matter,
your face
expressionless, dead
on a muddy, root tangled bank
of the Ohio.

Duncan....such honest touch hurts to read, even though I'm glad to read you again!

Hows this for being tardy?
or perhaps just fashionably moth late.

had to come find this haunting gem and place in my library.

but by the moments that take our breath away.”

All I seem to be able to do is gulp and nod.

and it's a good day at Pip to see not just one, but two of my favorite poets on the page today.

And yanno? Regret can be a slow suicide...

. . . and I want you to know that I understand, though I don't understand.  When reality, no matter how harsh, is painted with such masterful impressionist brushstrokes, the artist is blessed with a glowing aura that creates a bond with all who come into contact with the masterpiece.
