He Wrote Me

he wrote me
I guess it was
an easy thing to do
I read and reread the words
and it tugged at my heart
that was thinner than
the paper it was written on
and there it was
for me to keep
for a lifetime
to refer back to
in case I forgot
it was simple
and it was the truth
a five word sentence

“I just don’t love you”

just some words cut from
the diary of my heart

The truest irony is, when a man writes such words, it's almost a certainty that he does....but because of some wall within himself, can't.
