Visions On A Sunflower Drive

An apprentice who knows by the eye and the worth
To build by the hand, and plant seed in the earth
Shaping a legacy from the oak or the flower
That I might see over your shoulder to tower
In the swift scent of spring, moods condense in review
And all heaven holds dear, sure to shine upon you

So much of your muse, the sunflower sways
Of warm summer bronze and bright yellow ways
Spirits rise up to greet coming or go
Holding their ranks as the summer winds blow
Compressed fisted soil, texture weighted in hand
As assessed and installed by design, on command

Just as I have been pressed between thoughtful and pace
Given merit, some honor, certain mercy and grace
Sown and covered with care, and promised to smile
Face upturned to the sky in applied flower style
Baking seed on the bloom in a banquet resplend
All along welcome mat from the street to the end

Pleasing all that would travel or wander within
On a sunflower drive, where the weeds are kept thin

When I read what you write, I smile because
you can write just about anything your heart
desires, and do it well.
