It was in the early summer,
when Formosa flames the lawn...
when the steam of love is rising,
like the pipe smoke on the dawn.

FloorJack was off the liquor;
had rested up a spell.
As he combed his thinning hair, he said,
"Just as might as well!"

He plucked his shotgun from its place
and grabbed a bait of bread.
He put his feet upon the road;
his best hat on his head.

The squirrels & ticks were crawling,
but,  FloorJack didn't mind.
He was searching for ringtail
(Or whatever he might find)!

The widow heard him mount the porch;
she pinched her cheeks and then,
said, "It's been a long time coming"
and she let FloorJack in!

No coon was killed that summer morn.
No gun was ever fired.
But, Ken Wood swears the moaning
woke him up and he was tired!

The widow smiled all afternoon,
and on for several days.
She still liked slaughtered chickens.
She still liked FloorJack Ways!

The Formosa now stands frozen,
underneath the winter's brow.
The widow dreams of summer
and of  FloorJack on the prowl.

I love the pace of this and the levity. Sorta makes one give way to day dreaming!  LOL  I am enjoying your poems very much.
