Listening to every heart

Burlap’d Celebration

I think it’s ok
that I don’t remember who played
the cowboys, for there must
have been some, hiding, waiting,

but you and I were Indians,
and proud of it,
even though we were blond,
for we relished the stories
Dad had given us,

and our skit that day, for the
neighbor kids,
was just an idea to sell lemonade,
and put on a side-show,

to dance in the dirt, making
woo woo woo sounds
hoping to bring the needed rain…

Somehow, even now, that childhood chant
that resonates
when we were caught chasing our shadows
now holds yesterday’s summer sun up
in the sky

to warm the February gray
and may even bring some rain,
in time.

So if it is all right with you,
I’m going to relive some
woo woo woo times
dancing in the dirt of
black and white,
with tow-headed children
and their love for one another.

~*~

In memory,

Karilea,
And now he's gone to be a Chief.

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane,
I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.

Sissie...I adore that photo and your words of such a precious time in your life.  I remember the same thing.  You and I will share February now in memory of special love.     And Larry shares it too with the brithday of his precious Ginger.

chills my hair standing on my arms. felt alot of emotions here.  thanks, i too was born a tow head. in a family of dark head and only one with blue eyes while all others had brown  and only one with pale skin while all rest dark.  same family but the different one set on side  performing and making a different kind of rain dance.  and when they played as indians, they would make me, a cowboy, paleface.   your memory  brought out one i forgot, or tried to delete.   thanks for sharing

Karilea~
You reduced me to tears with this gentle remember~

I know for a fact that these days cannot be easy for a sister ...

I hold you in tender prayer vigil~

Keep the memories coming dear Karilea..
they do help the pain.
Heart hugs, Nancy

In the midst of winter,
I found there lives within me..
An invincible summer.

Karilea, understanding the passing of a sibling who though suffered with and through illness still had the spirit of "loving and being" right up to the end...

memories will always  rise when you least expect them but will always bring warmth to the heart.

and you still are those children, making those woo woo woo sounds...by the desires of your heart, memory, and the great value of insight

A precious picture... and such poignant poetry... your woo woo woo's went straight into this heart, dear lady... and... I'm betting it gave a brand new angel a big smile. *S*

Tears are kept in the well of the heart,
Poems as this, send water down the pipe-
Priming the pump, liquid exiting the eyes.

But through the salty blur, is seen the truth in black and white..and that truth is love...which death cannot deny.

A wonderful poem, sweet Kari..so lovingly done..for some reason, it lifts my faith in mankind a little, and I need that badly...thank you.
