in the shadows

The tide is high,
a lucky tide,
the smell is clear and strong
deep ocean smell,
the scent of planet life;
times like these I almost feel welcome here,
like resting my head
on warm skin
the soft belly of a fertile woman
more than willing,
the scent of life
yearning to share,
it warms my soul;
still
this tidal air is cold
from the northern deep Atlantic
where Winter is more than just a memory.

My gardens breathe their gentle mists
in ghostly light
onto the tongues of ocean cold
saying,
“Take me now; I am not afraid.
I am here
use me for my heat
and I will help you to remember
how we used to dance
before the humans rose to interfere.”

In this early mingled air
surrounded by Spring tide,
the moon gone from the sky
its baleful eye on other lives than mine,
surveying others’ tears and joys,
now too dark to see the ancient river
I feel it thick with storm detritus
brought by the sea,
child proud
to share its treasures and its toys.

You always remind me of Blazing Saddles - and the phrase you have a tongue like a "$20 "

End of phrase

Your words as always informative, detailed and specific

Your writing as always

I enjoy

Earthy, icebox. You seem to have such wisdom and knowledge of life. I always enjoy reading you.

nod...

damned humans, always interfering!

a frigging nuisance they are, but then, how much fun is life without a challenge?

Icebox, I  trip backward in time and can hardly speak when I finish reading your poems.  You see yesterdays as if they were tomorrows and I feel the passion for life spill through your words and catch at my heart strings.  I liked this very much.
