On a Highway to Bakersfield

23 February 2006

If I only knew
what was in your heart
Those places to travel and ponder
on a highway to Bakersfield

This Clovis of yesteryear
Where the Ninety Nine
and Forty One meet

Fresno - the Manchester Center
and the Valley of Venture Avenue
Who knew heaven was on Kings Canyon Road

Each step - each unit of clarification
those canals to the south
The Temple God made

California of a golden harp
these words to in God trust
For if I only knew this place
on a highway to Bakersfield

The Fresno California Temple is the 78th operating temple of The Church
of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The temple has approximately
10,700 square feet of floor space. The exterior is gray granite, quarried
near Fresno. The spire is topped by a gold statue of the angel Moroni (Mo-RONE-eye).

The temple is located in the northwest area of Fresno, California.
at 3290 North Valentine, Fresno, California.

The temple is considered a “house of the Lord” where the Savior's
teachings are reaffirmed through marriage, baptism, and other sacred
ordinances focusing on the eternal potential of family relationships.

Plans for the temple were announced January 8, 1999 by the First
Presidency of the Church. Groundbreaking services were held on
February 26, 1999. The Fresno temple was formally dedicated Sunday,
April 9, 2000, and was primarily serve more than 26,600 members of the
Church near Fresno, California.

Hi poettothecars!

There are many wonderful places, and highways to get you there within California.  I've lived here all my life, and still haven't seen them all.  Enjoyed your poem!

Just remember, my poems are a form of virtual USA, as I have only been there within my own mind and never physically, as yet touched upon US soil.

Given I was born and live, half a world away, in New Zealand. Almost closer to the South Pole than the USA

On that note, it is always wonderful to get the feedback and know the fact I specialize in what I call "virtual road trips" do have there value and worth in touching upon the hearts of whom read from my works.

I make no apologies for being accurate, I just try my best as to where the spirit from within takes me.
