when I was gypsy jean denim
my anchors were tin foil
with smooth seamed ends
in the sand of day dreams

drifting was swallowing
the sensation of getting
what was wanted temporary
with plenty left on the plate

of hungry for something more
substantial I think was the word
but I thought of rocks often
heavy ones bigger than people

but moveable if one had the time
and mind to align them in rows
wide enough for repetition
and tall enough for protection

but then with maturity I proclaimed
that freedom was the curse of my cure
for this wingless habitual ritual
that had nightmared my galloping

into visions of surrounding walls

This brings so many wonderful moments
back to me, of a certain age, and
those gifts that made a young man gleam -
there is something priceless
in wide eyes.

You have the central truth....there are no walls at all, none that matter anyway....unless we build them.

I'm going to stash this one in my Library. I like all of your poetry, but this one has a special depth for me, one I want to swim again.
