I meant to stop and talk with you,
but you're always on the run.
I meant to spread some TLC
where you've hidden from the sun.
I meant to show you that you matter,
  but I know you understand
I meant to make you smile today,
but it didn't go as planned.
I meant, Thanks, for who you are,
  but it's surely not enough;
I meant broad shoulders, strong,
kind hands, and a spirit tender-tough.
I meant to pray for you this morning,
but only God knows that I do.
I meant to hold a heart of glass
but for scattered shards of blue.
I meant to say, "I Love You"
but fear you'll think the worst.
I meant to add just one more thing:
  it's because...you loved me first.

You are a very talented writer Karen.
I very much enjoyed this piece.

Nancy, hugs!     I posted this in the wrong forum...but this will have to do unless a mod removes it for me.

Thank you for the kind words about my writing.   It has changed in the last year quite a bit with new exploration.
