Life…
What is it really?
A string of moments that we try to fill
     With something meaningful
Love…
Don’t we all want it?
Don’t we all need to feel that one touch
     That fills the spaces

We play hit and miss throughout our lives
Guessing on who’s what, and what who is
We really have no way of knowing…

I thought, many times, that you were the one
…Or you
Maybe this time; it’s you…
Only to find that it wasn’t…
It wasn’t you…
But
Did you have to leave?
Did you have to become silent to me?
Could you have stayed and called me friend?
I would have loved to love you
     Forever in that capacity—
But you didn’t give me the opportunity…

"Friend"...
What do we look for?
Who do we find?
How do we know who to trust…

Love…Oh! I have found Love!
Right under my nose
Once I quit reaching
Love found me…
And in that moment, when it touched me
I leapt that proverbial leap into the heart of the heart--
Into the atmosphere, I became a thousand pieces
Then down to earth again, to become a new me
Life
Became something different
Something worth calling Life
Something real…

Yet, somehow I still miss you
     Sometimes...
You came in, and you went out
And you don’t come back to say hello…
And I don’t like losing people…
I just don’t like losing people

That’s what this is about…
I know now--
This thought process

Loss…
A quiet humming in the Heart of the Life
In the midst of the Love
In the pith of me

Did you have to go?
You smiled my smiles
And felt my tears
But because, perhaps, I did not love you
the way you thought
I might have
     You had to go…

I miss you…
Somehow Life is lacking
Without your laughter…

wow!
so much of what you've written really hit home - that's what we want from our poetry and sweetie you sure made me "feel" in this one. A very touching piece, I can relate and I enjoyed reading this very much.

Deep and longing...with lots of questions that we all ask but half know we will never REALY know...but this is how people are...they leave before they should because love is so deeply entrenched within them they cannot bare to be just ''a friend'' so they leave hoping the hurt will subside..but it will not...no matter how far away they go it is an open wound they conceal with clothing but it is a wound that will never heal...enjoyed this write ..thank you..

URIAH, TRACIE66, GOLDENROSE, LEEJ--

Thank you so much for your replies!  I guess I was just rambling...but figured I'd put it out there anyway...I'm glad it made some sense to someone other than me!

A lonely poem indeed, haven't we all walked down that road, only to find our way back in good time.  For some reason this reminds me of a poem by Oriah Mountain Dreamer called the "Invitation".  Sorry, I don't know how to put the link here but you can google it and it is sure to come up.  I think her last lines say it all.

"I want to know if you can be alone with yourself and
if you truly like the company you keep in those empty moments"

Good honest writing, dgvarner~  *enjoyed*

bumping this back up to the top I read it last night and loved it, and I read it again just now and I still love it.

Parts of this took me back... way back... usually I don't enjoy that particular trip, but it was nice this time. Thank you for sharing this

SKYFIRE..Thank you so much for thinking this worthy of a "bump"!  I'm glad it was a good journey back for you while reading

This writing is about so many things really...about love of so many colors. I believe even friendship is an intimate thing...and I feel a hole where the old friends used to be--touch is powerful, and the occasional email just lacks the full power of a hug or a quick kiss..And just because I'm in a happy place in life, doesn't mean I don't miss the people who used to be a big part of it!

anyway..rambling on...lol  Thanks so much for reading!

nodding glum

but if anyone has noticed a new spark in me, it's because I have recently discovered something. When we love, we take those we love into ourselves, and they become a part of us forever.

and that, sweet friend, is true, if you let it be so.

SERENITY BLAZE...
YES! You've said the absolute truth--because we allow ourselves to love, we bring them in and they DO become part of us!  However...I still miss them sometimes..LOL

thanks for reading
