Aiming Too High
By Larry Chadwick
For my wife

My pen has stopped and the ink well is dry,
Even my mind has gone blank I cannot cry.
Here I sit staring at a blank page,
I feel no emotion not even rage.

I change my focus and watch the clock,
But my mind isn’t working I can’t even talk.
Then I pace the floor trying to place the fault,
Yet all my walking won’t unlock the vault.

I’m ready to stomp my feet and blow a fuse,
But nothing seems to be effecting my muse.
Finally off to bed for a long peaceful sleep,
There I toss and I turn I’m really in deep.

Nothing is coming to my mind to write,
I’m ready to give up I’m losing the fight.
Then the light came on like a flash,
I’ll lower my standards, I’m gonna write trash!

So... when do we see this trash? LOL For this isn't it. *G*

You've written the poetic gnashing of teeth that accompanies dry spells so very well, my friend... I like this very much!!!

Ruthie,
You crack me up. Well the American Poet Lauriette was on NPR radio yesterday and was asked about writers block. I don't know who he quoted but the crux of it was that if you have writer's block, lower your standards! So I did!

DtM,
Thanks! Kind words indeed. By the way, it is nice to meet you.

ctowen,
LOL You silly guy, I should have remembered that myself. And thanks.

Sy,
Thank you sir. And if anyone doubts that just visit the dump.

JM,
Thanks, sir.

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.

Your "trash" is very inspiring.
Unmask the "trash", and it is a treasure.
Keep writing, it lifts my spirit!

Take care

HaHa!  I loved this write.  I hope that a muse ascends to you very soon...we wouldn't want you to resort to writing Barney-esque novelties...would we?  HaHa!

Larry, sometimes we just try too hard...afterall, we are poets! This is what we do! We write!

sit back and it will come when it's ready

we've all had those days of just being dried up...it's expected

Liz,
It's nice to know we're even as your writing lifts my spirits too. And thank you for being so kind.

P.S. I almost always do.

yv,
hahaha Cute. Though this was about the topic based on inspiration from our American Poet Lauriette interviewed yesterday on NPR radio.

Dixie,
Believe me I have no block. It's just a topical inspiration. And thank you.

Linda,
I'm a what? Nope, nobody ever did. And thanks sweet pea. Yup that's what he said. Haven't really had to test the theory yet but I'm sure it won't be long.

Martie,
Knowing how you write nobody will even know! Thanks for stoppin' in.
