To think and not believe
in the power of true love
jams up a mind’s reservoir
with debris from the past.

Dormant there confined
like a prisoner in denial
algae incapacitates
the pre-ordained free flow
of everybody’s soul.

To think and then to know
no one is meant to grow
in the dark and murky waters
of what the eyes behold
is to bring into sharp focus
the sheer beauty of a heart
pumping regularly
to the beat of destiny.

And there amidst the slime
desire suffocates
and succumbs to the force
of perceived reality
swirling so its evilness
around tenderness
until forced into behaviour
foreign to abiding truth.

But those who seem to know
I cannot breathe dishonesty
stand me on a ledge
ready to freefall
into the fear of change
though the plunge be awesome
in its sheer uncertainty.

Who plunges but a fool
when love’s hands are still entwined
in the safety net of history
and so alone I break new ground
one step each day to find
the comfort of my own truth
in this here rainbow land!

But into my heart
It was not my lips you kissed
But my soul

Love those couple lines most of all.
No doubt we make our own beds, and the dreams we hold dear.

Wonderful writing, Helen~
