Wow....Can't believe it's been three years ago since I wrote this for my "Winnie Cooper." The memory of me lying down on my bedroom floor with my red notebook, a pen, and a broken heart will never quite fade away. This bittersweet song/poem came after the end of my relationship with the one girl I thought would be "it" Oh well, life is good, friends are plentiful, laughter is everywhere (even if most of my writing says otherwise) and this poem opened up a new avenue in my life in the form of writing.

Being There

You are such a special girl. There is no one as good as you.
You are the best I have in life, my dream that has come true.
So I'll make you this one promise; if no one else can hear your prayer
Just close your eyes and dream and dream, and baby, I'll be there.

I'm so glad that you are with me, and I'm so thankful this is real
Because there's nothing better in my life than the way you make me feel.
But if your life gets filled with pain and the good times get too rare
Just close your eyes and dream and dream, and baby, I'll be there.

I wish that I could show you just exactly what you're worth
Because I know that you are perfect,You are and angel here on earth
But this world isn't heaven. And if it ever fills you with despair
Just close your eyes and dream and dream, and baby, I'll be there.

I hope you trust these words because I mean it when I say
That for you I would do anything, I will help you find your way.
But if you still get lost somehow and no one seems to care,
Just close your eyes and dream and dream, and baby, I'll be there.

You are a shooting star, I see you sailing through the sky
But sometimes I can tell that you're not sure where to fly
So if you want me by your side to guide you through the air
Just close your eyes and dream and dream, and baby, I'll be there.

Watch me as I fly, watch me as I fly.I finally have it all.
But something isn't right, something isn't right. I'm about to fall.

YOU left ME

You said you no longer want me.You said it was all a big mistake
And now I feel the emptiness of undeserved heartache.
And in the end, I've figured out, this world isn't fair
Because I've closed my eyes to dream a dream, but baby, you're not there.

This just rolls off the tongue, a love song. Thanks for reposting it, I don't think I read it the first time around, and many good writes got lost that particular month.

Andrew...your note preceding your poem says it all...

THESE are the things one strives for...

if a worthy mate shares them...

then LIFE is rich!
