Listening to every heart

Yesterday’s Christmas

Should it take a lopsided pine
in grayscale comfort,
pilfering radiance to glory awhile

before we imprison its presence
in glimmer brilliant

to frame it as memory, when
all the while,
smallish gifts of vellum dispatch
betiding token boxes
were the greatest present in thought
and deed…

inked word, bestowing keepsakes…
cherished memories of their own…

did they know?

Did they know the memory
would be oiled and framed
with love?

We love you, for you will always be in our hearts…

Merry Christmas, 1960.

Love, Mom & Dad

They didn't know, but you can bet they hoped. In your case, the wish was well repaid.

The pull here is finding a lifelong story..in so few words.  Well done.  Ken

Through rubble and trouble and dark of night
The yawn of a dawn will hasten the light

The seasonal title pulled me in.
Haunting thoughts of bitter-sweet sadness
follow me away.

About that time, my parents yielded to my begging that I be allowed to take the pictures... maybe because Mother's arms were full with a new baby. *S*

Of course... that means that no picture from that era is quite complete... our leaning pine suffered the further indignity of me chopping its top off in the pictures... but hey... I was short... and what was UNDER the tree kept grabbing my attention. *S*

What a beautiful love-shot this is. *S*
