Among the cooler shadows of her
Where trees overhang the sun
To dapple the ground around with broken shards
Brittle as dry leaves dropped last fall
I took refuge
And counted minutes pass in slow march of sky
       Wondering how it was
I could resist when she called
With her giggling skip over stones
In each shallow bed rumpled as they were
With the wrinkles where she moved

I have felt her depths…
And run aground where she pleased
To bend over something harder than herself
Only to drag scraping over stone
  Searching again for the current
she plays to slow eddies
             And hard-lost trees

But the shine of her on my eyes
  Is brighter these days
And I find I seek this shade to wait
Past noon to begin again her ways
Always running to the sea
Always changing the colors she wears
On fine skin that beckons me touch

             With a coquettish feel me

That sometimes
                  Also changes

Me

I wrote: “If she were dry I could walk along the path
She leaves here forced through stone by the way she writhes
On her bed, slightly abrasive. Yet, I know I would miss
The way when she rises  and the warm of her wetness as it covers
Softer banks to spread across the green flanks leaving behind
Those things carried from someplace else, some other time.”

I had this going through my mind
on my way back to work today...

this seems an appropriate time to share

Summer's quiet death
Myriad colors swimming
Oriental rugs

Thank you for sharing

I wish I had a book of your writings...it would be treasured.

There are not a great deal of rivers for me to discover on foot around here, but the one I frequent in Lynn Valley does dry up in the summer to a mere trickle.  To see how she winds and scars the bottom of the rock bed is really something.  What appears to be a river, turns to a gentle stream most times, but still has the power to carve stone just like a woman right?  Great write Captian Ron.

yes, as you said to me on my turf down below

for you - tis the river
for me  - the tree
moving through us
you and me, just
playing in the band

This river - this living love that flows through your words - what beauty she yields in the pen of such a talented lover -
